In Round 1, Susie’s offering of HEMATIC is invalid as it is an American spelling:
haematic
Pronunciation: /hiːˈmatɪk/
(US English hematic)
ADJECTIVE
DATED Medicine
Relating to or affecting the blood.
But THEMATIC was an excellent get. I had ANTHEMIC
In Round 14 I did ((5+4)*9+1)*4=328
Close game!

SONNIES as a beater in one of the rounds.
I thought 41×8 was the obvious way to go for 328. 5×9-4 or 4×9+5 and then 4+5-1.
We started off this series so promisingly with octochamps but now we've completely dried up. Not getting 10 now.

Thanks I missed that error!

I had THEMATIC and did the numbers the same way.

I had that as a candidate word too, but it's not valid in the current dictionary. Did it used to be in?

I presume so. It's on Apterous and
this thing.

Ok thanks. My bad. SONNIES as a search doesn't lead anywhere in the dictionary, but SONNY is not listed as a mass noun so it should be ok. I was expecting an auto-redirect but I guess the plural needs to be explicitly specified for auto-redirect to work.

I think the reason why ‘sonnies’ doesn’t direct to ‘sonny’ is because the plural wouldn’t be used very often, but I doubt it’s invalid.
