I think this is the strongest week of preliminary matches we’ve had for many, many years. What a series so far.

This scoreline does make me wonder if they’re missing a trick in not having a repechage for highest-scoring non-winners.

R14 alt: (4*10-7+6)*3*8=936

And one of my TV opponents John Eadie was the Origins of Words correspondent.

After a slow start the quality has certainly been very high.

Out of interest, given Angus coming straight after John, does anyone know the longest streak of century games?

Well it’s at least 8, because the best octochamps have scored centuries in all 8 their preliminary matches (Julian Fell being the first, 23 years ago).

I was in fact more interested in most centuries within 1 week of 5 preliminaries (i.e. not finals or CoCs) when losing scores are also accounted, and this week we’ve had 6 in total out of a theoretical maximum of 10.

You'd need two double centuries in the same week to beat 6; they're incredibly rare in preliminaries. I think today was the first since John Aziz?

Looks like the last week to equal 6 centuries in the prelims was when Maus was on back in series 73

Has it got to be Monday to Friday or just 5 games in a row?
