Series 89 Finals Predictions (With Poll)

What a great Series this has bene so far and of course, we were all waiting to see if Peter Young would be able to make history once more just like Series 81 and push someone off the Finals list, but sadly, with his loss on Tuesday and with just six more preliminaries to go this Series, we now know who the final eight are now! Here are the matches as follows below and as per what Colin has hinted a couple of weeks ago when Chrono Yuen was still on, the dates are no secret and here they are below:

Quarter-Finals #1 (20 June): Arthur Page (#1 Seed) vs Isabelle Heward (#8 Seed)
Quarter-Finals #2 (21 June): Mark Finnerty (#2 Seed) vs Jack Harvey (#7 Seed)
Quarter-Finals #3 (24 June): Toby Byfield (#3 Seed) vs Michael Calder (#6 Seed)
Quarter-Finals #4 (25 June): Jessica Pratesi (#4 Seed) vs Mark Goodliffe (#5 Seed)

If you thought this time last year was somewhat lacklustre due to only two Octochamps, I suppose this makes it up with a full house, the first time since Series 82 (2020) this has happened! I know we were probably expecting to tie/break the record in Series 81 with nine/ten Octochamps but sadly, it never materialised. Hey, half of the finalists are also returning contestants plus we have a Mastermind Champion here too, so let's see if their success will continue in each of their respective Quarter-Finals!

I'm not going to be sharing any predictions and will be writing a review of the episode each day as per the last 11 Series, so if you have any feel free to post them here! :)

The poll will close on the day the First Quarter Final airs and you will be allowed to change your vote until then. Finally, if you happen to be reading this in the near future, apologies but you will not be able to vote.

It is an interesting series- but by no means weak imo given the amount of octochamps. Arthur is my bet for the win, but could also be rumbled any of the top 5. Given this, I'd say that it's the most open series for a good while given the amount of potential contenders.

^Yeah, I would say you can't automatically rule out others despite Arthur having a considerable lead in terms of points over Mark Finnerty. It's all to play for come Thursday.

Btw, my recaps for Thursday and Friday will be considerably later than usual as I will be flying and will probably not have time to catch up on the show until I get back home on Friday night.

I think later I'm gonna finish up that Series 89 stat chart, hadn't touched it in a while but I think I should get around to it

Would be cool to have full bracket predictions from these. A lot of the time basically everyone guesses the same winner but might think differently for some of the (on paper) closer ones

Would love to see Jessica win this both because we haven't had a female series champion since series 39 (which is a hard to fathom anomaly) and she was very friendly when we played each other at a St Albans co-event years ago, but I can't see beyond a win for Mr Page, and an inevitable "King Arthur" pun during the trophy presentation from Colin Murray.

What were the nicknames he had for all eight?

Congratulations, most of you were right once more with Arthur Page winning! I could see why so many people were rooting for Jessica and it was such a spectacular Semi-Final between her and Arthur. Shoutout specially to that one person who voted Michael Calder, you sure had foresight that he would get into the Grand Final I bet, amazing!

Arthur "A5" Page
Mark "To Win" Finnerty (and beyond)
Toby "2 Small" Byfield
I don't think he had one for Jessica or Mark G?
Michael "The Ice Man" Calder
Jack "The Cat" Harvey
No nickname for Isabel either that I'm aware of

Btw no-one has had the courage to say this but A5 is a whole page. Maybe you might consider it half a sheet but a page (as in in a book) is more likely to be A5. So he should really be called A6.

Think it's meant to be A5 bc that's where the king on a chess board starts on. Although I did just look at a setup and it may should've been called E1 instead
