Round 1: H A L E S R U G N

Toby: LAUGHERS (8)
Nigel: LAUGHERS (8)
OT: GRANULES (8)
Score: 8–8 (max 8)

Our Champion and Challenger have plenty to laugh about........as their 8 is Laughers

Round 2: D R E P I W U G S

Toby: PUDGIER (7)
Nigel: GRIPED (6)
DC: GUIDERS (7)
OT: SPURGIE (7) WIDGERS (7)
Score: 15–8 (max 15)

Round 3: 25, 8, 5, 2, 9, 7. Target: 628.

C1: 628. (2 × 9 + 7) × 25 + 8 − 5 (10)
C2: -
Score: 25–8 (max 25)

Nice and straightforward..........not too taxing for our champion Toby as he picks up 10 more points

Teatime teaser: CLAIMTEN -> MACILENT

Round 4: G N A L O T A D R

Toby: GLOAT (5)
Nigel: taragon
DC: analog GONADAL (7)
OT: LARGANDO (8)
Score: 30–8 (max 33)

Toby has plenty to Gloat about as he picks up 5 more points........sadly Nigel doesn't get to score with his 7 Taragon as it is specified as Tarragon.........the usual brand of rudeness from DC with their 7 gonadal which was spotted by our recap writer Tracey Mills..........but there was one rather interesting 8 hidden away with Largando which is a musical term.

Round 5: S O D I N O Y E B

Toby: BONDS (5)
Nigel: BEYONDS (7)
DC: NOBODIES (8)
OT: BOONDIES (8)
Score: 30–15 (max 41)

A good round from challenger Nigel with his 7 Beyonds our champion Toby can manage a 5 with Bonds.........but over DC they get to shine with their 8 Nobodies........you guessed it I spotted this one

Round 6: 100, 5, 7, 4, 8, 10. Target: 825.

C1: 825. (100 + 4) × 8 − 7 (10)
C2: 827.
Score: 40–15 (max 51)

Nice and Straightforward not too taxing for our champion Toby.........but I found another way of solving this

5-4=1
100+1=101
101*8=808
808+7+10=825

Round 7: D I T A S E B U T

Toby: baudiest
Nigel: ABUTTED (7)
DC: SITUATED (8)
Score: 40–22 (max 59)

Another risky 8 that doesn't pay off for Toby............our challenger Nigel gets to score with his 7 Abutted...........over in DC they get to shine with their 8 Situated

Round 8: C P O M S E I T W

Toby: MOPIEST (7)
Nigel: -
DC: POETICS (7)
OT: MESOPIC (7) METOPIC (7) OPTIMES (7) POWISCE (7) STOMPIE (7)
Score: 47–22 (max 66)

7s all round but not for Nigel as he blanks this round

Round 9: 75, 50, 25, 100, 10, 9. Target: 213.

C1: 213. 9 × 25 − 10 − 100 ÷ 50 (10)
C2: 210.
Score: 57–22 (max 76)

Nice and straightforward our champion clearly has no trouble solving this bad boy

Teatime teaser: BASEMENT -> BEASTMEN

Round 10: P D U M E S R I T

Toby: rumpiest
Nigel: DUMPIEST (8)
DC: DUMPSTER (8) STUMPIER (8)
OT: DISPUTER (8) DUMPSITE (8) STUPIDER (8)
Score: 57–30 (max 84)

Another risky word from Toby that is disallowed by Susie but the damage is minor as Toby has a healthy lead over Nigel who scores with his 8 Dumpiest.........there were a few of those hidden away no extra points if you can spot them all !

Round 11: H E G A T I S A C

Toby: AITCHES (7)
Nigel: CAGIEST (7)
DC: ACHIEST (7)
OT: AGATISE (7)
Score: 64–37 (max 91)

7s all round.............lets move on shall we ????????

Image

Round 12: K L E T U R N O Q

Toby: QUOTER (6)
Nigel: QUOTER (6)
DC: TORQUE (6)
OT: RUNKELT (7)
Score: 70–43 (max 98)

6s all round.........one rather interesting 7 hidden away with Runkelt

Image

Round 13: R E N I S A E T P

Toby: TRAINEES (8)
Nigel: PERTAINS (8)
DC: PANTRIES (8) APERIENTS (18)
OT: EPISTERNA (18) PISTAREEN (18)
Score: 78–51 (max 116)

8s all round from our Champion and Challenger...........meanwhile over in DC they pull a 9 out of the bag with Aperients. Episterna was my spot........there was 1 more 9 with Pistareen ........sadly you don't get extra points for spotting that !

Round 14: 100, 3, 7, 8, 6, 8. Target: 962.

C1: 962. (100 + 7) × (6 + 3) − 8 ÷ 8 (10)
C2: Timed Out
Score: 88–51 (max 126)

Another fine solve from Mr Byfield.......sadly not for Nigel as Colin times him out

Round 15: N A I L E D D O N

C1 buzzes on 1.5 seconds to say DANDELION which is correct.
Final Score: 98–51 (max 136)

Image

Another super speedy solve from our champion Toby who wraps up his second win in style, take nothing away from Nigel he gave as good as he got 51 points is a respectable score, join me again to see if Toby can get a third win..............in the meantime it is bye for now.
