Gender politics etc

Post by Marc Meakin »

I thought with so much interest in the kissing thread I would make a thread for the wider subject of gender.
Let me start by saying I have watched two films recently that I have enjoyed.
One is called Good Luck You, Leo Grande about a middle aged woman and her relationship with a 20 something escorts.
Also No Hard Feelings about a 30 something female employed by the father of a teenage boy to help him lose his virginity.

If the genders were reversed it would make for uncomfortable viewing

I haven't watched those films, but there are definite differences between "accepted" behaviour towards men and towards women in various situations. Nice and vague but there you go.

Maybe off topic, but brought this story to mind -

Slightly different to hiring an escort for your teenager though!

The threads not dead.
Kevin Keegan has made a comment saying he does not want female pundits at England games.
The issue with this is he has been branded as misogynistic rather than a sexist dinosaur or pig maybe.
I do prefer men to be pundits at men's games because I usually respect a man's opinion on a man's team sport more.
I have no issues at say Tennis, The Olympics etc.
However as England Ladies have won a major football tournament less than 2 years ago and the men for nearly 60 years maybe I and Kevin need to reevaluate our opinions

Some controversial stuff there Marc! I think really it should be about the quality of the punditry, male or female.

Agreed, Carragher shouldn't be anywhere near a football studio.
I think the BBC want to meet quotas rather than pick the best people for the job, a cross the board in fact.
They are trying to address the rampant sexism and racism at the BBC especially in the last century.

Its just a preference with me I have issues with not having pundits from each team represented including Co commentators.
For balance I don't want male pundits or commentators at women's games either.
I also think that managers of women's teams should be wonen

Having said all that, I would love to see a mixed team football match at the Olympics, though unlikely in my lifetime unless I get cryogenically frozen
