Anyone know why EBONITES seemingly isn't allowed? Susie stuck with the singular form even though it's not listed as a mass noun.

Though NOBLEITES was available in the same round so it's kind of moot

Because EBONITE is another term for VULCANITE which is given as a mass noun. ebonites x has been disallowed twice before. https://wiki.apterous.org/Episode_6175 https://wiki.apterous.org/Episode_7690.

Very obscure minerals are usually not given as a mass noun hence why NOBLEITES is valid.

My memory may be playing tricks, but I think that minerals were one of the categories that you could pluralise under the 'restaurant rule', and GRANITES was given as an example. Apparently there are different sorts of granite, but I don't think the dictionary gives any such information about granite or ebonite. I thought it was a stretch at the time.
