Button Bashing Mayhem (another Sporcle game)

Post by Gavin Chipper »

This game here. My best is 222, which I thought was good when I set it, so it will be interesting to see how much you guys can deflate my ego this time.

I got 146. Obviously you can only really have a go every few minutes to let your hand calm down.

Hang on is 2 hands better than 1? I just did 1.

Did a lot of goes but fucked up a lot so I wanted to try and get my best runs. I got:

205
194
182 that stopped short bc I typed a wrong button
209

Decided to stop there, and for anyone wondering, yes I did two hands.

Mightily impressive, considering I couldn't get beyond 130 or so. The quicker I go, the more likely I am to accidentally type two in a row, which kills the game really as you have to manually delete.

Yeah that's what sucks about it. Would feel better if you could just press ONE button instead of TWO.

There's a game where you just press space, but you can just hold it down so it makes the game useless.

If I could map the two buttons to a video game controller I would complete it. I was great at those Olympics games on console where you had to press two buttons in quick succession to make your character run. Keyboard buttons are two chunky to get a good rhythm and you can forget about doing it on touch screen on your phone.

According to the stats someone did get 300 today. Someone here? Someone got a bot to do it? I just upped my high score to 224.

Edit - No-one has scored between 224 and 300, so whoever got 300 didn't work up to it.

I had some goes at this and my best score is 208, which I've got three times.

That's good consistency. I've got a 224, 223 and 222 now.

Is this because you specifically think that you could do 20 presses a second or because you consider yourself generally good enough to complete these things? If it's the latter, I would suggest that I don't think the time allowed and the number of presses required were set up with a thought to make it completable particularly.

I'm averaging 200 - 210 having moved to two hands. I have a faster rhythm using one hand but make more mistakes on the keyboard. I reckon I would make less mistakes with a video game controller. Although when you put it as "20 presses a second" I'm less confident.

Also, I wish the timer didn't start until you've pressed the first 1. Having to click play with the mouse is losing time.

You can press space to start. And it only starts when you release. So left thumb on space, left index finger hovering over 1 and right thumb hovering over 2 is how I start.

Click start with the mouse first but don't release the mouse button until the cursor is off the start button. Then it should be poised for a space start.

Utilising the space-start technique I've smashed my PB with 222 after only one attempt.

Edit: now up to 226.

I'm genuinely astonished at people getting 200+. I just can't do it because once I start going too fast I end up pressing the same button twice in a row.

It's very hit and miss. For every 200+ I'll crash out of several more. It's often at/near the start as well.

Discovered a particularly good system that I now employ, and hadn't considered before. PB now 229, which I think is about as good as I'll get.

For me it's left index finger on 1, right thumb on 2. Start is as described above.

I'm on 226 now btw. I consider 225 to be a good number to get as it's a nice round 15 per second. As said, all 300 is 20 per second. 300 in 7 seconds is over 40 per second!

I realised on a failed attempt that if I just held 1 & 2 at the same time it'd fairly consistently output 21212121... with no errors, so eventually managed a run where I hit 1 then mashed both keys and it worked - imagine that's how the other 300 was achieved too!

I'm struggling to hit 200 without that exploit :D

It took me weeks to get 0.01 seconds on my LCD digital watch stopwatch function (had to take the watch off in order to achieve it though

I've gone up to 227 since I last posted. I seem to struggle to get a run going more than I used to. Most of the time when I release space to start it claims that I've started with a 2 when I definitely haven't. I've started introducing a small delay but it all costs time.
