Spoilers for Wednesday 5 October 2022 (Series 86, Heat 78)

Post by Philip A »

A thousand Congratulations to Tom Stevenson who is the first contestant ever, in 7,864 competitive games, to never lose a round in the heats, as well as the first to never fail to score in any of them; all 80 words offered valid, all 32 numbers methods correct, all 8 conundrums solved. See you in December.

Great stuff.
Marvellous no risk play on the letters and fantastic more riskier numbers.
I would have risked REMAINER.

Colin though must have put the last 2 or 3 challengers off though with his keenness

Is being a member of the 1000 club better than scoring in every round?

Awesome performance, no rounds lost, 1000 club. Many congrats Tom 8-) especially with the extra pressure heaped on by Colin.

On the number of rounds unbeaten record, how many rounds did Craig Beevers lose on his Octorun?

Four lost rounds, and a further two where neither player scored.

Absolutely brilliant Tom. One of the best runs up there, right next to Ed. I've been compiling stats about this for a while and it's been astonishing to look back on this, here's the stats and I'll be compiling more as we get to the actual finals.

Letters
Rounds Maxed: 53 out of 80
Nines Gotten: 5 out of 10
Cons. Solved: 8 out of 8

Numbers
Rounds Maxed: 28 out of 32
One Large: 9 out of 9
Two Large: 9 out of 12
Three Large: 3 out of 4
Four Large: 3 out of 3
Six Small: 4 out of 4

EDIT: Also I just realized with the other 1,000 members that they've lost rounds too, even Ell with just ONE round. This really is marking a milestone here. Big congrats!

Congrats on the octorun Tom! That last game was fantastic. Normally Colin's excessive promotion winds me up, but on this occasion it was exactly what was needed and just added to the occasion and drama (though I'd still prefer he toned down the shoutiness at the end). The choice of 4 large, and the easy 803 in the end was the icing on the cake! Superb performance. p.s. as someone who suffers from anxiety never once did it show in your performance. Coolest cucumber in town. p.p.s I was really wondering when someone was going to mention that you are a dead-ringer for Daniel Radcliffe (not Harry Potter as Rachel said!).

Outstanding performance, chapeau. Thought the challenger was going to say "outlaid" when he went for "loadout" but he didn't, and that awesome record was yours. Brilliant.

Excellent game, congrats to Tom.
r2: SWINGLE
r4: FOLATES
r8: OUTLAID
r13: BORATED
Incidentally, I also was irritated by Colin's drama and yelling, but it really was a brilliant game from Tom.

Excellent game and run, and to get 1000 exactly as well as scoring in every round (and the other thing that's implied by that anyway so less relevant) made it extra special.

And yeah, Colin is a bit OTT, especially about the thing in brackets. It feels like he mentioned it from Tom's first round in his first game and every round since.
