Round 1: S L A E R A S I N

Ahmed: NASALISE (8)
Janet: RAINLESS (8)
DC: ARSENALS (8)
OT: ASSAILER (8) REASSAIL (8) SALARIES (8)
Score: 8–8 (max 8)

Lovely when both players are level after the first round.

NASALISE: Pronounce or utter (a speech sound) with the breath resonating in the nose.

Round 2: T L E I D F A E S

Ahmed: FETALISED (18)
Janet: DETAILS (7)
Score: 26–8 (max 26)

Ahmed breaks away instantly with a nine that even Adrian doesn't know what the hell it means. Let's try to simplify it:

FETALISED refers to NEOTENIC, which then refers to NEOTENY: The retention of juvenile features in the adult animal.

Round 3: 25, 1, 4, 7, 3, 4. Target: 130.

Ahmed: 130. (25 + 7) × 4 + 3 - 1 (10)
Janet: -
Score: 36–8 (max 36)

Teatime teaser: SCOTDAWN -> DOWNCAST

Round 4: G F O O S T E A C

Ahmed: FOOTAGE (7)
Janet: FOOTAGE (7)
DC: FOOTAGE (7)
Score: 43–15 (max 43)

Round 5: W L I S A O D I K

Ahmed: SOLIDI (6)
Janet: WALKS (5)
DC: ODALISK (7)
Score: 49–15 (max 50)

Tough round for both of our competitors, but both have been beaten with a seven from Dictionary Corner!

Round 6: 25, 10, 6, 2, 8, 2. Target: 139.

Ahmed: 139. 25 × 6 - 10 - 2 / 2 (10)
Janet: 139. 25 × 6 - 10 - 2 / 2 (10)
Score: 59–25 (max 60)

Dictionary Corner Break 1- Adrian talks about his documentary "Drinkers Like Me", and how he addresses drinking based off of his life and experience with drinking, along with the idea of drinking less. He says that it's hard to moderate and honestly I think that goes for just any drugs if you're trying to wean yourself off in the same manner of you trying to drink less. If you need that kind of stimulant (wouldn't really call drinking that but it can be a problem if you rely on it too much), it's hard to get through that kind of withdrawal. I've never drank much to really know something of that manner, but I do remember what I've been taught in those drug abuse lectures that I've gotten throughout school. If anything I'd probably just drink in slow paces and not really accept much TO drink. Still hope to find a good drink to enjoy though. Adrian's writing a book on drinking less too - which I assume is "The Good Drinker: How I Learned to Love Drinking Less" - which is expected to come out October 6th of this year.

Round 7: B N A E Y S E M A

Ahmed: BASEMAN (7)
Janet: SEAMEN (6)
OT: BASEMEN (7) BYNAMES (7)
Score: 66–25 (max 67)

Round 8: R N O I T G H U O

Ahmed: ROUTING (7)
Janet: ROUTING (7)
DC: ROOTING (7) HURTING (7)
OT: HOOTING (7) HOUTING (7) OUTRING (7) ROUGHIT (7) THOUING (7) TOURING (7) UNRIGHT (7)
Score: 73–32 (max 74)

Round 9: 25, 10, 4, 5, 4, 9. Target: 490.

Ahmed: 490. 25 × 4 × 5 - 10 (10)
Janet: 490. 25 × 4 × 5 - 10 (10)
Score: 83–42 (max 84)

Teatime teaser: GARYFULL -> FRUGALLY

Round 10: S P E O R T I E D

Ahmed: REDEPOSIT (18)
Janet: depositer
OT: POETRISED (18) PROTEIDES (18) REPOSITED (18)
Score: 101–42 (max 102)

Another nine from Ahmed! Very unfortunate for Janet, as only the spelling of DEPOSITOR is valid; I'll be honest I thought that spelling was valid the first time I watched this.

Round 11: R N E I B A R E P

Ahmed: RAPINER (7)
Janet: PANEER (6)
DC: BARREN (6) REPAIR (6) RAPINE (6)
OT: PEBRINE (7) PERINEA (7) REPINER (7) RIPENER (7)
Score: 108–42 (max 109)

Both good words honestly for this round, never heard of either myself.

PANEER: A type of milk curd cheese used in Indian, Iranian, and Afghan cooking.

Round 12: D S I U E N W R U

Ahmed: INSURED (7)
Janet: WINDERS (7)
DC: UNWIRED (7)
OT: REWINDS (7)
Score: 115–49 (max 116)

Dictionary Corner Break 2 - Radio vs. Television work, Adrian prefers radio. He also brings up an idea for a show called "How Do I Do This?", which I think would be pretty interesting.

Round 13: T D E C A I S E P

Ahmed: SPECIATED (18)
Janet: PACIEST (7)
OT: PEDICATES (18)
Score: 133–49 (max 134)

ANOTHER NINE FROM AHMED!?! Absolutely crazy, he might be on his way to break Elliott Mellor's record of the highest score with that playing!

A P T O S H O U T O U T !

Round 14: 75, 5, 8, 9, 10, 7. Target: 110.

Ahmed: 110. 75 + 7 * 5 (10)
Janet: 110. 75 + 7 * 5 (10)
Score: 143–59 (max 144)

HOOOOOOOO BOY, he might actually do it folks!!!! Could this be the path of beating 152 by ONE POINT?!?

Round 15: E Y E L E T C A N

No one buzzes. The answer was ACETYLENE.
Final Score: 143–59 (max 154)

 Wow... A conundrum that's stumped BOTH of our players. It is the finals after all! And unfortunate that the high score record couldn't be broken, at least Elliott gets to hold onto that for a little longer. Anywho, Ahmed strolls his way onto the semi-final! Question is, who's going to meet him there?!? Will it be...

#4 seed Jeremy "Slammin'" Slaney

or

#5 seed Matt "Golden Boy" Gould?

Alas, that'll be for a future recap but for now, keep an eye on Christy for the next quarter-final!
