Celebrity Countdown?
So what do fellow countdowners think of this proposal? I know that they have done this in the past but should they bring a celebrity edition back once every 2 or 3 years - like the Champion of Champions series.
I think it would make interesting viewing and would maybe bring in more viewers if a high profile celeb appears on the show.

And if this was to go ahead, which celebs would you like to see on the show?

Re: Celebrity Countdown?
It happened quite a few years ago, and believe it or not, Des Lynam was a contestant.
Yes, I think it would be great if that happened again.

Re: Celebrity Countdown?
The reason they don't is that most celebrities are, unsurprisingly, shit at Countdown, and it's much harder to not be embarrassed by a poor performance over 15 rounds than it was over 9.

23/04/98 Des Lynam 32-17 Sian Lloyd
Well, 32 is pretty bad in a nine rounder I think. However, after a year's practise, maybe he's a little better.

I talked to someone quite a while ago aside from this forum around the time Des Lynam was chosen to replace Richard Whiteley and he said, "If anyone can replace Richard Whiteley, it's Des Lynam."

Re: Celebrity Countdown?
Really? Around that time? So your friend said this either shortly before or after he was picked? Spooky. Perhaps this belongs in the paranormal thread...Jason Larsen wrote:I talked to someone quite a while ago aside from this forum around the time Des Lynam was chosen to replace Richard Whiteley and he said, "If anyone can replace Richard Whiteley, it's Des Lynam."

Re: Celebrity Countdown?
This was after Richard Whiteley passed away, and I think it was only appropriate that Des Lynam be chosen to replace Richard Whiteley after his death. The Countdown staff thought, "If Des Lynam can play Countdown, why not let him host Countdown?"

They were seven-rounders mate- LLNLLNC format. Though really you should still be getting 40 + under those circumstances.Ginger Jono wrote:23/04/98 Des Lynam 32-17 Sian Lloyd

Re: Celebrity Countdown?
Ah, cheers. Possibly a shortened form like the one for Conor and Wills would be used nowadays then?

Re: Celebrity Countdown?
Jason, I believe Jono is referring to the 25th anniversary special aired in November which was Conor vs Chris. They had to shorten it (12 rounds I think) to make room for appearances from various famous personalities. Though I'm not sure "average" is a very accurate way to describe them!Jason Larsen wrote:I thought they were just average people.

Re: Celebrity Countdown?
I did some research, and yes, I found out who Conor Travers and Chris Wills are. They are very special people, and I'm sure Conor is still just as grown up as he was when he was on Countdown.

Re: Celebrity Countdown?
To tell you the truth, I was upset to read that. I think Charlie had completely misunderstood that I wasn't trying to beat around the bush. I wasn't going to say that, but then I remembered that it's not what I say when I write, it's how I say it. I should have just came right out and said that.
Re: Celebrity Countdown?
Thanks for clearing that up Jason.
I, for one, appreciate it a lot.

Yes, I retract my original statement. I should in fact have said that we need a lot more posts from people telling us they have nothing to post.

Re: Celebrity Countdown?
I'm thinking of who would be good contestants on a celebrity version of Countdown.
