I disagree they count for nothing. Viewers, hardcore and casual, are losing interest and switching off. Some are citing the lack of studio audience. The show is losing respect of its fans IMHO. 259,000 is almost nobody. ITV afternoon can siphon off ratings in seven digits. And given the show airs at 2:10 pm, they should learn lessons from having Murray standing-in and appoint much more inviting presenters who will attract more viewers. Not switching off.
Philip, if you're in a room that holds 259,000 people, surely you'd notice the other 258,999 people there? It's not 'almost nobody'- it's still a good figure for daytime.
Does anybody know what the ratings were like when Colin stood in? I wasn't a fan of Colin and I think Anne has really freshened the show up. I do miss Nick but I'd rather either of them than Countdown. Colin treated it like he was presenting the sports, and at the end of the day, it's just a silly little word game.
It is almost nobody UK-population wise, though. (259,000/67,440,000)*100=0.384%. The Answer Trap ended after one series because, as UKGameshows put it, Channel 4 at 3 pm with watched by almost nobody (150,000 for The Answer Trap), whilst ITV at 3 pm can siphon off 1,000,000 viewers (over 1% of the population, which is good for 3 pm).
259,000 is not a good look even for 2:10 pm IMHO. It’s one of the lowest figures in history (still higher than Celebrity Countdown on More4 which fell from 250k to 125k in two shows).
Colin Murray drew in 768,000 on 9 February, incl. one week of catch-up: highest ratings for 8 years, I believe. For 2:10 pm I’d say over 500k is good, 800k even better (Neighbours gets this figure at 1:45 pm). 768k for C4 at 2:10 pm is asking for a shift to 3 pm.
The main problem with Channel 4 daytime is that it’s losing out to its competitors. ITV dominate daytime now.
