Something has had me thinking for a while now.

I have a debit card, which I use mostly for groceries, but occasionally I use it for other things.

My mom and I had an argument over the phone about how to spend my money. Interestingly enough, it had to do with donating money to Charlie for Apterous.

I wanted to do that because at the time it was during the Christmas season and I wanted to be generous to Charlie.

Sure enough, I donated 10 British pounds to Charlie so I could keep Apterous up, and got all the other features on Apterous that are described on the donation page.

At that time, I remembered it was better to give than to receive.

However, my mom does not want me spending any more money for my personal use.

A few days ago, I ordered one of my mom's favorite TV shows growing up on DVD. I did tell her that I might surprise her in a few weeks, and sure enough I will. I told her it was a good surprise, and she will absolutely love it. But, there is one key factor about the order that will not affect me at all. I billed her package to her, not me, so I wouldn't have to spend the money in my account. I hope that's not a problem with her.

I have a good heart, and I want my mom to know that I realize the gladness of giving. I hope she isn't disappointed to find out what I have done.

Who here shares my feelings that I am disappointed I don't have enough money to spend?

I do mate. It must be frustrating and upsetting for you, especially as you want to use the money to benefit other people.

I'm sure your mum has your best interests at heart, and that she'll appreciate your gift to her (even if she is paying for it).

Has the DVD already been sent, Jason? Maybe you could phone up the company, explain the mix up, and put it on your debit card?

IMHO it was a nice thought, Jason, if it's you Mum's favourite show, but not really a gift if she's paying for it.
I hope you don't mind me saying this.

I don't think anybody feels like they have enough money, especially at this time of year, when we've had Christmas to pay for!

Is it not fraud to bill something to someone else's credit card without their knowledge of it? (regardless of the intention or where the gift is going)
If so, I hope she does appreciate the DVD and subsequently decides not to call a fraud lawsuit on you Jason

Julie, the DVD has not been sent yet, but my situation was not a mix-up, especially if I intended to make my mom happy. By billing her package to her, I am not actually spending the money I have in my account.

I think that makes sense. Jason's Mom is a particular character so I use her local spelling. But I still write and speak British English the rest of the time. Also I quite often write Mom anyway, it looks cool.

And more importantly, MOM is a valid word on Countdown, whereas FAVORITE isn't.

Jason, I'm curious - what's the TV show your Mom liked?

Lesley, the TV show my mom liked growing up is called HR PufNStuf, and it starred a former British actor by the name of Jack Wild. He was born in Manchester, and his show premiered 40 years ago.

For those that don't know, Jason has been sentenced to ten years for fraud. Apparently his legal team is appealing the sentence but they don't hold out much hope.

There is a delay in my order, probably because I purchased it while it was out of stock.

I ordered it from Amazon, and they asked me to approve the order so that they knew I still wanted it for my mom. This is because they would have canceled the order if I had not approved it.

I did approve it.

I was persistent, because after all it is the complete series of one of my mom's favorite TV shows on DVD, and I want to give it to her just because.
