Chemical Symbol Words

Post by Kai Laddiman »

What's the longest word you can come up with using just the chemical symbols with no repeats? Mine is 23-47-49-76-53-16.

Only 9? I'm sure you can find a longer one than that. Without much effort, I just came up with an 11: 18-34-3-6-19-68-16.

Richard Stilgoe once claimed that the longest word you could play musically (using the note symbols A to G) was CABBAGEFACE.

Actually, if you make it CABBAGEFACED and play it allegro moderato as below, it's rather a jaunty little tune.

If it was a word, you could have 78-68-76-79-44-16.

To add yet another post, there is a 10 in 74-85-68-27-6-19-16 (which is more harmless than it sounds).

Does anyone know that episode of The Simpsons where Bart's at a new school for gifted kids and the teacher's waiting for them all to get the answer to what's on the black board? 'RDRR' = 'Har de har har'.

Well, I feel like Bart - stoopid! You lot are WAY over my head. But I don't mind, you're bloody legends one and all!

A measly 11 which came to me in a dream about pears...

27-7-26-75-7-58-16

A few different combinations of elements can be used to spell it though.

Can you find one that doesn't break the rules?

i'm not afraid to admit I was trying to work it out on the basis that "LMN" had something to do with "element" :)
