As nobody else volunteered - I took up the challenge.

It was dreadful.

I've no idea what narcotics are required for anyone to think "Countdown + Thomas The Tank Engine = WINNER!", but the same guys theme tune remix on a related vid was quite good. Was that the one which featured in a podcast?

Finally! The Countdown promo has been posted onto youtube (well it's been there over a week and I've only just found it)

This one's only a waste of 11 seconds rather than 5 minutes, and might not have been spotted as it's tagged with 'Carole' not 'Carol':

Shite's a good Scottish word, isn't it, or did Susie never mention that? ;) No, they're not really, but just by comparison. :)

Yesh! lol You can get Sean on sat nav (though I haven't heard it), and when your journey ends he says "You have reached your deshtinashion." Fabulous!

I've seen most of these already (woohoo!) and I thought the Thomas the Tank Engine one was rather inventive! I have the Countdown remix used in the Kai tribute video ( :P ) on my iPod. The other remix you posted, the blooper dance remix, is quite good. I just like the fact that it features the clock theme so heavily :D I found the "I quit" video rather ironic too!

I like how they obviously set up the Y-I gag and then Ant ruins it by asking for a vowel first.

PS Someone should recap this.

Curse you Kirk! I was feeling all smug and then overlooked it all! I'm going to come up with a poor excuse- I wasn't really playing along anyway, I was just watching and happened to notice a 7!

:P That is true. As for the headmistress, I wonder if she was purposely losing...although she did get the conundrum. Was it some kind of in-joke?

I was in the audience for this! I wore my Countdown T-shirt hoping she'd pick me for the game thing at the end where you can win a holiday, but I didn't manage to attract her attention :(

Just discovered this, although it's a couple of years old and has clearly (from the comments) already been seen by a number of forumites. I really enjoyed it; unlike a lot of amateur comedy videos, I found the very amateurishness of this one rather endearing (and actually it's deceptively well put together). Whatever became of Tom Rolfe?

Very interesting video. I liked the bit where he posted the letter to just "Des & Carol" - reminded me of when Richard Whiteley said that people used to just send letters addressed to "Dick, Yorkshire" and they always found their way to him :)
The topless scene was also very gratifying, considering they don't even allow cleavage on the actual show. Liked the power balladesque guitar rift, the physical workouts for what is a very static and cerebral game, and the Scrabble connections. It's a shame the promised sequel never materialized.
Oh, and a quick look on Google shows that Tom Rolfe was more famous in his incarnation as a racehorse.

Well, I thought so, although I wouldn't have expected it to be your cup of cocoa. In point of fact, the inference we are clearly meant to draw from the dream sequence is that he suddenly finds himself in the Countdown studio totally naked. In the interests of giving a truthful performance, and even though his lower regions are hidden behind the desk, I'd like to believe that Tom was sufficiently dedicated to his art to strip off completely to shoot the scene.

That aside, the bit that actually made me laugh out loud was the sound of him slapping his own face when the letter arrived.

Haha, that was great. I especially liked the numbers rounds (and how whoever made this video didn't think it would be interesting to show us how the number input works).

Possibly the worst Countdown-based video ever made. The animation is clever, but the soundtrack is awful, the concept underdeveloped, and the video of no relevance to Countdown: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJ4HhvBckcA

There's no meaningful way to compare them - they're completely different musical genres. But yes, Alec's version is incredibly good - I have the high-quality version saved on my desktop and play it regularly.

I thought they were funny without the inverted commas, particularly the first one. Thanks for posting those, Kirk. Of course Jan Ravens who played Carol has actually been on Countdown as the Dictionary Corner guest while Des Lynam was in the seat, so that was very cheeky of her. The second one is nicely topical too now that Countdown really is moving into Big Brother territory!

You don't do it justice again, Kirk.

That was absolutely abysmal. I don't remember David Brent being either thick or having a Brummie accent . . . and I certainly hope no one associated with Countdown would ever say "haitch".

Yeah, at 48 seconds it's so funny. Haha.

I love the fact you have the contestants at the bottom but, more impressive than that (for a technophobe like me) is that they're actually moving.

Edit: Edit to say I was actually the series 60 champion, Alec :P

Cheers. Those clips were taken from Jeff's rounding up at the end of each game. One or two are actually slowed down slightly to fit the duration. ;)

'mongrelvids' has uploaded a pretty cool 9 round 'episode' of Countdown :

Part 1
Part 2

Wonder how long it is until someone beats my score of 81. ;)

Quite a lot of similar CD-related stuff on the channel too (not to mention Ian Volante's Mastermind appearance)
