The Left Wing Press
I cannot believe that after near treasonous behaviour by Jeremy Corbyn, the best headline the Guardian and the Mirror can come up with is about the Duchess of Sussex's fashion line for unemployed women, and Simon Cowell's botox.
I used to laugh about North Korea and Russia suppressing news stories, but aren't we just as bad?

What near-treasonous behaviour was that, Paul? Explain with examples please.Paul Worsley wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2019 11:14 pm I cannot believe that after near treasonous behaviour by Jeremy Corbyn, the best headline the Guardian and the Mirror can come up with is about the Duchess of Sussex's fashion line for unemployed women, and Simon Cowell's botox.

And anyway, the Guardian is not left-wing, it is very much centrist. They probably hate Corbyn as much as you do!

Re: The Left Wing Press
I'd describe The Guardian as left wing and liberal (although admittedly, I don't read any of the mainstream newspapers, mainly rely on BBC website for my news) and Wikipedia pretty much agrees with that description.JimBentley wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2019 1:43 pmWhat near-treasonous behaviour was that, Paul? Re: The Left Wing Press
The Guardian is only left-wing on identity politics issues (I don't necessarily think that such things are party political, but they're generally associated with the left because they're so despised by the right) but on politics, it couldn't be more centrist. They generally advocate a vote for the Liberal Democrats. Some of the writers may have leaned towards Labour in the past, but since Jeremy Corbyn became leader, they all yearn for a return to the Blair times (i.e. adopting the centre-right ground, rather than espousing any kind of borderline-socialist policies).Martin Long wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2019 3:09 pmI'd describe The Guardian as left wing and liberal (although admittedly, I don't read any of the mainstream newspapers, mainly rely on BBC website for my news) and Wikipedia pretty much agrees with that description.JimBentley wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2019 1:43 pmAnd anyway, the Guardian is not left-wing, it is very much centrist. Basically, I believe the current political paralysis cannot be pinned on one individual or party, No-one gets out with their reputation unscathed.
Secondly, I think too much is made of the idea that the press has a right wing (or left wing) bias, I think people will gravitate towards a newspaper that reflects their viewpoint
Lastly, there are very few people that I hate. I might disagree with Jeremy Corbyn, but I wouldn't put him in the same category as Adolf Hitler or Midge Ure.

Re: The Left Wing Press
The other thread used actual examples of front page headlines from newspapers on that day to make a point about how right wing newspapers are ignoring bigger issues. There was nothing on either the mirror or guardian's front page about the Duchess of Sussex's fashion line or Simon Cowell's botox on that day. If you're point was to say one side is as bad as the other it would have been better to compare like with like and use actual examples.Paul Worsley wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2019 11:52 amI was being sarcastic in response to another thread.JimBentley wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2019 1:43 pm What near-treasonous behaviour was that, Paul? Before I started this thread I checked out the Sun and the Daily Mail websites, and neither lead on the Flintoff story. I also picked up a copy of the Sun while queueing in Costa and no mention of Flintoff on the front page.
I subscribe to the online Daily Telegraph and wasn't aware they were ignoring Brexit.

I bought my mum her newspapers that day and I can assure you they were on the front page of the respective rags.Paul Worsley wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2019 10:54 pm Before I started this thread I checked out the Sun and the Daily Mail websites, and neither lead on the Flintoff story.
