After Ann Dibben closed out her octochamp run with an impressive 884 total on yesterday's programme, we have two new challengers on the episode for today, which is also internationally recognised as Earth Day. Which of our players has a world of new Countdown opportunities ahead? Tune in or join Anthony E for the recap later to find out.

I hope 153 is a decent score, because that's what I got against John today.

3rd Numbers Alt.: (50 + 25 - 7 + 5) * 9 + 1

How many did you get against Dave? (I assume by John you mean Jon Hinchcliffe - today's player - it's been set wrong on the Wiki) But with a couple of beaters around max was at least 157.

Cracking show though - after Ann's run I expected normality - I hope Jon can come back in a few years time.

That must have been one of the best two-new-contestants games we've ever had.

Oh yeah, it might have been Jon. I was looking at the surname more closely, however, and it was definitely Hinchliffe (no second "c"). Anyways, I got 146 against Dave. Nothing that hasn't been done before.

Just treble checked: Jon Hinchliffe is correct.

I thought that too. The 9 in the first round must have been one of the "closest 9s to be almost spelt out correctly" ever! No offence to Dave for missing it though, with it being his first round played of presumably a new day of recording too.
Hope Jon gets another chance.

(should catch up soon :-))

I know it's after the fact now, but I strongly, strongly second this proposal. IMO, had Jon won this show, he would probably have become an octochamp just like Dave did.
