And Jonathan Gresty loses! He seemed a pretty good player actually and hadn't been beaten in any round in his first two games. Spelling ORTOLAN ortelan was enough on its own to lose him the game. I think he could have been a decent octochamp.

I didn't think it was particularly smug. At least he knew what the word meant.

Jonathan buzzed right at the end of the conundrum to try to blag an extra couple of seconds to work out the answer, but quickly gave up on the idea. Then Richard encouraged him to have a guess. Really was a different time back then.
