Spoilers For Wednesday June 10th 2015

Post by James Robinson »

We have now reached the semi-final stage, and after the minor shock of the #5 seed knocking out the #4 seed yesterday, Kevin Steede will have a job on his hands today to knock out the #1 seed, Tom Cappleman, today.

Not impossible, but looking at the stats, it's a tall order.......

Statistics Corner:

Firstly, No.1 Seed Tom "The Enfield Enforcer" Cappleman - 9 Wins, 1,025 Points. (Average: 113.89)
Highest Score: 135 vs. Jack Roberts (4th Game)
Lowest Score: 98 vs. Gavin Woolnough (Quarter-Final)
9's Achieved: 2/3
Total Points/Max/%: 1025/1135 (90%)
Letters Points/Max/%: 610/691 (88%)
Numbers Points/Max/%: 345/354 (97%)
Conundrum Points/Max/%: 70/90 (78%)

Secondly, No.5 Seed Kevin "The Plymouth Powerhouse" Steede - 9 Wins, 891 Points. (Average: 99)
Highest Score: 108 vs. Terry Stapleton (4th Game)
Lowest Score: 85 vs. Lois Pattison (7th Game)
9's Achieved: 1/2
Total Points/Max/%: 891/1103 (81%)
Letters Points/Max/%: 563/656 (86%)
Numbers Points/Max/%: 298/357 (83%)
Conundrum Points/Max/%: 30/90 (33%)

As Tracey doesn't want to be in the position of recapping herself tomorrow, we've switched recaps this week, so join her later, and join me tomorrow. ;) :) :D

Wow - I was very pleased that I beat Tom twice in the rounds where he missed a six, but was crushed like Kevin
in the other rounds. Looking forward to the next two matches - should be ace.

PS like Kevin I also went for "nortenas" where NORTENOS would have been fine.

Well done to Tom for reaching the final, I think beating Andy took its toll on Kevin, who just ran out of luck there.....

I maxed it in the audience, with the exception of the last numbers game, and was especially happy getting one over all the 4 large experts in the 790 round, as I got it after 5 seconds. 8-)

FLAVONE/FLEURON in round 1, TONEME in round 5 and UTOPIAS in round 11.

The teatime teaser clue seemed to imply that a rapport was a person.

Also PATIOS was available in three consecutive rounds. Is there an item for that?

METALICCA as yesterday's conundrum scramble and MEGADEATH as today's answer? Someone on the staff must be a headbanger.
I'm not dead yet. In a rut right now because of stress from work. I'll be back later in S89. I also plan to bring back the Mastergram - if I can find a way to run a timer or clock through pure MediaWiki without having to upload to Vimeo every time.

When you suddenly have an old Countdown favourite like TOWNEE disallowed, you know it's not going to be your day.
I wonder did Tom know it was no longer valid? or just didn't spot it.

I hadn't spotted it, and had learned from past experience to use RESONANT rather than NORTENAS, so was very lucky to avoid the same mistakes.
