Yet again we are limited in our Countdown for the week because of the horses, but let us rejoice in what Countdown we have for the week. According to Nick it is International Nrses Day, which happens to coencide with the birthday of Florence Nightingale

Round 1: B C D E A O S L B

David: COBBLES (7)
Eileen: COBBLES (7)
DC: DABBLES (7)
OT: ALBEDOS (7) BOBSLED (7) COBBLED (7) SCABBED (7) SLABBED (7) SLOBBED (7) SOLACED (7)
Score: 7–7 (max 7)

The Corrie studios are just a stone throw away from the Countdown Studio and it may (or may not) have inspired our contestants to 7 points of the mark. I was personally hoping for BOBSLED so we could have a Cool Runnings gif, but why not anyway?

Round 2: S E L I R A T U W

David: WAITERS (7)
Eileen: WAITERS (7)
DC: WARIEST (7) RETAILS (7)
OT: LAWSUIT (7) LUSTIER (7) REALIST (7) RITUALS (7) RULIEST (7) SALTIER (7) SALTIRE (7) SALUTER (7) TULWARS (7) WAILERS (7) WASTREL (7)
Score: 14–14 (max 14)

2/2 in terms of 7s and maxes in another very flat round.

Round 3: 9, 5, 75, 25, 100, 50. Target: 893.

David: 893. 9*100-5-(50/25) (10)
Eileen: 892.
Score: 24–14 (max 24)

David takes the lead on a not-too-taxing 4 large to take us into the first break

Teatime teaser: IANSTEAM -> ANIMATES

Round 4: S E J I R A Q E S

David: EASIER (6)
Eileen: SERIES (6)
DC: RAISES (6)
OT: ARISES (6) EASERS (6) ERASES (6) JESSIE (6) SAREES (6) SERAIS (6)
Score: 30–20 (max 30)

There have been EASIER selections this SERIES but both our players found a max.

Round 5: T D D O E A T C V

David: COATED (6)
Eileen: DOTTED (6)
DC: OCTAVE (6) AVOCET (6)
OT: ADVECT (6) CATTED (6) VATTED (6)
Score: 36–26 (max 36)

Another flat round? Are we going to get a peep of anyone called Darren today?

Round 6: 6, 3, 4, 2, 75, 25. Target: 571.

David: 571. (75+25-4)*6-2-3 (10)
Eileen: 575.
Score: 46–26 (max 46)

David extends his lead to 20 to max the first half. I get the feeling this game could be decided by the numbers rounds.

Louise talks about her triathlon training and her ambitions to represent Team GB

Round 7: R T P I U A R D I

David: PUTRID (6)
Eileen: TRIP (4)
OT: DIAPIR (6) IRRUPT (6)
Score: 52–26 (max 52)

Another PUTRID selection here and Eileen struggles to see past 4 :(

Round 8: F A S O H U L I S

David: FOSSIL (6)
Eileen: SHOALS (6)
OT: FUSILS (6) OAFISH (6)
Score: 58–32 (max 58)

The letter shuffler has done some good work today but both players find a 6 this time.

Round 9: 10, 4, 75, 100, 25, 50. Target: 207.

David: 207. 50*4+((100+75)/25) (10)
Eileen: 207. 50*4+10-(75/25) (10)
Score: 68–42 (max 68)

Eileen scores in the numbers this time and it's 9 out of 9 maxes for David? Are we on for a max game today?

Teatime teaser: GETSNICE -> GENETICS

Round 10: N O R U M A T E D

David: AMOUNTED (8)
Eileen: AROUND (6)
DC: MATURED (7)
OT: UNDREAMT (8)
Score: 76–42 (max 76)

David's good performance has AMOUNTED to another 8 points here and a 10th maximum of the day, also the first 8 we've had available in a day of bad letter selections

Round 11: S N R O A E T G G

David: STRANGE (7)
Eileen: STRANGE (7)
DC: ORANGES (7) STAGGER (7) RAGSTONE (8)
OT: GANGSTER (8) NEGATORS (8)
Score: 83–49 (max 84)

Ah well that's the max game off, as our contestants declare nothing STRANGE but a few 8s were available, one of which is found by DC.

OoW: Susie talks about the origins of advertising slogans. As if we don't get enough adverts in Countdown?

Round 12: R O K I G E Y I T

David: TIGER (5)
Eileen: - (0)
DC: GOITRE (6)
Score: 88–49 (max 90)

AT LAST! It's another difficult one but it gives us our first Darren of the day. Well I say at last, I'm running out of Darren's but eventually found Ipswich midfielder Darren Ambrose when checking through Forest programmes.
Image

Round 13: L N S O E A M N D

David: DEMONS (6)
Eileen: LOANED (6)
DC: DAEMONS (7) ALMONDS (7)
OT: LANDSMEN (8)
Score: 94–55 (max 98)

It's like waiting for a bus! You wait all day for a Darren, and two show up at once! Although DC miss it and it costs them a max game right at the death
Image

Round 14: 3, 10, 5, 2, 50, 100. Target: 280.

David: 280. 3*100-(2*10) (10)
Eileen: -
Score: 104–55 (max 108)

Eileen blanks on the numbers and David makes it a perfect 40 to take him over the century mark.

Round 15: Q U I T C I D E R

No one buzzes. The answer was CRITIQUED.
Final Score: 104–55 (max 118)

Anyone? Nope, no one in the studio can get the conundrum, Unless of course someone did but they are going to be a contestant some time soon. Eileen was a good player on the letters rounds but her poor numbers play cost her today. She is sent off with her goody bag by Nick along with the studios best wishes.

However, it's another good win for David and he'll be hoping to gain the few more wins he needs to make the finals, but as I said at the start, he'll have to wait until Monday to find out, and there isn't even an early morning special this week :( Well, you never know, the racing might be called off.

Toodle-oo
