Round 1: T S R I U O P O U

Kevin: POROUS (6)
Sheila: SPROUT (6)
DC: TROUPS (6) UPROOTS (7)
OT: PURSUIT (7) RIOTOUS (7)
Score: 6–6 (max 7)

A pair of 6's from our contestants, which DC UPROOTS for a great 7. :)

Round 2: L J I E M U E R O

Kevin: MILER (5)
Sheila: JOULE (5)
DC: rumour MOUE (4)
OT: LOERIE (6) LOURIE (6)
Score: 11–11 (max 13)

A couple of 5's from the players, and there are a couple of 6's just left below.......

A LOERIE or LOURIE is another term for turaco and go-away bird.

Round 3: 75, 50, 25, 100, 4, 6. Target: 652.

Kevin: 653. (100 x 6) + 50 + (75 / 25) (7)
Sheila: 654.
RR: 652. (100 + 75 - ((50 / 25) x 6)) x 4 (10)
Score: 18–11 (max 23)

With the scores level, Kevin brings out the 4 large and gets a lead from it, but Rachel is on hand to lead us to perfection. :D

Teatime teaser: RODSVISA -> ADVISORS

Round 4: S L S A I A B V E

Kevin: SAVABLE (7)
Sheila: visable
DC: ABSEILS (7)
OT: ABELIAS (7) ALIASES (7) BAASIES (7) SALVIAS (7) VALISES (7)
Score: 25–11 (max 30)

Unlucky for Sheila as VISIBLE needs 2 I's, so Kevin's lead is doubled just like that.

An ABELIA is an East Asian shrub of the honeysuckle family, typically having small tubular pink or white flowers. (Genus Abelia, family Caprifoliaceae)
In South Africa, a BAASIE is an offensive form of address to a young white male.
A SALVIA is a widely distributed plant of a genus including the sages, especially (in gardening) a bedding plant cultivated for its spikes of bright flowers. (Genus Salvia, family Labiatae: many species, in particular the scarlet-flowered Salvia splendens)

Round 5: D K S A I E G A T

Kevin: AGISTED (7)
Sheila: STAGED (6)
DC: GASKET (6) AGEIST (6) STAKED (6)
Score: 32–11 (max 37)

A brilliant darrenic 7 from Kevin, and he's now in full control of this game. :)

Round 6: 50, 4, 1, 7, 4, 10. Target: 584.

Kevin: 584. ((50 + 1 + 7) x 10) + 4 (10)
Sheila: 578.
Score: 42–11 (max 47)

Sheila can only manage 6 away, so with Kevin's spot-on offering, the lead is ever expanding................

Sherrie talks about her appearance on Carry On Behind, and how Joan Sims needed to go to the toilet while they were stuck in their caravans at Pinewood Studios, and then being accidentally spotted by Kenneth Williams, who made light of the situation. :P

Round 7: L W G I E A E S T

Kevin: wealiest
Sheila: westie
DC: LIGATES (7) LEGATES (7)
OT: WEIGELAS (8)
Score: 42–11 (max 55)

Well, that's put the brakes on it for now, as both players draw up illegal words. (Admittedly, it took Susie a while to realise that Westie was capitalised......... )

Round 8: R V T O I N E R N

Kevin: invertor
Sheila: INVENT (6)
DC: INVENTOR (8) INTONER (7)
Score: 42–17 (max 63)

Oh dear, oh dear, was that a needless risk by Kevin there......... :?: :?: But, for Sheila it's an advantage not fully taken, as she could've stuck the OR onto INVENT, for a brilliant darrenic 8. 8-)

Round 9: 75, 100, 25, 50, 6, 1. Target: 139.

Kevin: 139. ((75 - 6) x (100 / 50)) + 1 (10)
Sheila: 144.
Score: 52–17 (max 73)

Time for 4 large again from Kevin, and Sheila is still far, far away.............

Teatime teaser: ROUGHFLU -> FURLOUGH

Round 10: A E O D T D S E M

Kevin: DEMOTED (7)
Sheila: STEAMED (7)
DC: EMOTES (6) DEMOTES (7) MOATED (6) MADDEST (7)
OT: DEADEST (7) OEDEMAS (7) SEDATED (7)
Score: 59–24 (max 80)

OEDEMA is a condition characterized by an excess of watery fluid collecting in the cavities or tissues of the body.

Round 11: H F G O E A R Q E

Kevin: FORAGE (6)
Sheila: FORAGE (6)
DC: GOFER (5)
OT: GHERAO (6) HEREOF (6)
Score: 65–30 (max 86)

Nothing much to FORAGE for here.........

Susie's Origins of Words talks about the origins of "hairy".

Round 12: I E A R C N H O N

Kevin: CANNIER (7)
Sheila: CHAIN (5)
DC: CHORINE (7)
OT: ENCHAIN (7)
Score: 72–30 (max 93)

The game is finally over, as Kevin wraps it up with his CANNIER offering. 8-)

Round 13: T A O E D N U D N

Kevin: TONNEAU (7)
Sheila: DAUNTED (7)
DC: TANNED (6) DONATED (7)
OT: UNATONED (8)
Score: 79–37 (max 101)

A lovely offering of TONNEAU from Kevin here, although his top score today will be no more than 99............

Round 14: 75, 7, 6, 3, 5, 1. Target: 232.

Kevin: 232. (75 x 3) + 7 (10)
Sheila: 232. (75 x 3) + 7 (10)
Score: 89–47 (max 111)

The easiest numbers of the day by far, and thankfully, Sheila does score in it. :D

Round 15: U L S T E R C U P

No one buzzes. The answer was SCULPTURE.
Final Score: 89–47 (max 121)

But, neither player can spot the conundrum, a bit of a tricky one with the 2 U's there.

So, Kevin is slowly, but surely, garnering a lot of points in his shows, with some decent scores with some nice spots thrown in too, such as VANESSID yesterday. :)

His 3-game total of 288 points is decent, but slightly below the average of both our current octochamps, Tracey and Andy. Hopefully, when I'm back in the recappers' chair next week, he'll be playing his 8th game. Join me then to see if he can make a bid for the top spot. ;) :) :D

So, till then, bye for now. 8-) 8-) 8-)
