Friday 28th November 2014 (Series 71, Prelim 96)

Post by Anthony Endsor »

Hello and welcome to another Friday recap. :) With only 3 weeks to go of this series we are closing in on the series finals. Is there still time for another name to drop in to the mix before the Quarter Final window is slammed shut? Well our apterite Antoinette Ryan has made an excellent start to her attempt to gatecrash the Quarter Finals. A total of 227 points from 2 games is quite formidable. Will she be stopped in her tracks today? Kevin Duckworth stands in her way. Enjoy.

Round 1: R F M N I O E I A

Antoinette: FOREMAN (7)
Kevin: foamer
DC: FIREMAN (7) FERMION (7) MORAINE (7)
OT: FOAMIER (7) FORAMEN (7) MOANIER (7) ROMAINE (7)
Score: 7–0 (max 7)

A great start for Antoinette as she gets FOREMAN for 7. Kevin saw 'foamer' but it was disallowed.

Round 2: P L R E A E S T O

Antoinette: OPERATES (8)
Kevin: pleaser
OT: OLEASTER (8) PAROLEES (8) PETROSAL (8) PRELATES (8) PROTEASE (8)
Score: 15–0 (max 15)

Kevin had 'pleaser' disallowed, as you can only be a crowd pleaser and not a pleaser in itself. Antoinette saw OPERATES to get another 8.

Round 3: 3, 8, 9, 6, 100, 75. Target: 259.

Antoinette: 261. (100 x 3) - ((6 x 8) -9) (7)
Kevin: 261. Mistake in working.
RR: 259. (8-6) x 75 + 100 + 9 (10)
Score: 22–0 (max 25)

Both players declared 261, but Kevin made a mistake, so Antoinette took another 7 points.

Teatime teaser: TADMERRY -> MARTYRED

Round 4: G L T R I E N M U

Antoinette: MELTING (7)
Kevin: GUILT (5)
DC: RINGLET (7) MINGLER (7)
OT: ELUTING (7) GREMLIN (7) RUNTIME (7) TERMING (7) TRUEING (7)
Score: 29–0 (max 32)

Antoinette is MELTING her way through this game. Kevin may feel GUILT that he still hasn't scored after 4 rounds.

Round 5: D X G N E A E Z L

Antoinette: GLAZED (6)
Kevin: GLAND (5)
DC: DANGLE (6) GLEANED (7)
OT: DEGLAZE (7)
Score: 35–0 (max 39)

Kevin got GLAND for 5, but it wasn't enough as Antoinette saw GLAZED for 6. She looked almost regretful as she declared it, realising Kevin still hadn't scored.

Round 6: 1, 1, 9, 7, 7, 75. Target: 379.

Antoinette: 377. (7 - 1 -1) x 75 + (9-7) (7)
Kevin: -
RR: 379. (7-1) x 9 x 7 + 1 (10)
Score: 42–0 (max 49)

Kevin started this round asking Rachel for a point, before requesting his numbers. What I think he may not have realised is, getting points involves getting something right   And yet again Kevin couldn't score. Antoinette got 377 so scored another 7 points. This is starting to get embarrassing.

Len Goodman talks about when he first got the job as a judge on Strictly Come Dancing.

Round 7: B P D U E I W S E

Antoinette: BIPEDS (6)
Kevin: SWIPED (6)
DC: SPEWED (6)
OT: BEWDIES (7)

Finally Kevin is off the mark as he SWIPED 6 points here. Antoinette matched him though with BIPEDS.

Round 8: D K N I O E T R D

Antoinette: KINDRED (7)
Kevin: TINKER (6)
OT: TRENDOID (8)
Score: 55–6 (max 64)

Another 7 points for Antoinette with KINDRED. Kevin did TINKER with a 6, but fell further behind.

Round 9: 6, 7, 9, 1, 7, 75. Target: 756.

Antoinette: 756. (9+1) x 75 + 6 (10)
Kevin: 756. (9+1) x 75 + 6 (10)
Score: 65–16 (max 74)

It's 10 points a piece here, as both players score 756.

Teatime teaser: CLOAKTUB -> BLACKOUT

Round 10: Y T H U O A Q T O

Antoinette: QUOTA (5)
Kevin: QUOTA (5)
DC: TOOTHY (6)
Score: 70–21 (max 80)

And both players got a 5 point QUOTA here.

Round 11: D J T S U E A R I

Antoinette: TIRADES (7)
Kevin: RUSTED (6)
DC: READJUST (8)
OT: ADJUSTER (8)
Score: 77–21 (max 88)

Antoinette got TIRADES for 7, as Kevin RUSTED for 6 and failed to score.

Susie Dent talks about the origin of the name of Ben Sellers.

Round 12: H C T N E A O G R

Antoinette: CHANGE (6)
Kevin: CHEAT (5)
DC: TANGO (5) CHANGER (7) CHANTER (7)
OT: ANOTHER (7) CHORTEN (7) COGNATE (7) ENACTOR (7) GOTCHER (7) NEGATOR (7) NOTCHER (7) TRANCHE (7)
Score: 83–21 (max 95)

Antoinette got 6 for a CHANGE here. Kevin got a CHEAT for 5 so didn't score.

Round 13: L C P M U A I T A

Antoinette: TALCUM (6)
Kevin: CAPITAL (7)
OT: CAPITULA (8)
Score: 83–28 (max 103)

It's CAPITAL rewards for Kevin as he gets 7 points. Antoinette got TALCUM for 6, and for once failed to score.

Round 14: 1, 7, 9, 6, 1, 75. Target: 575.

Antoinette: 575. (75 - (9-6)) x (7+1) - 1 (10)
Kevin: 573.
Score: 93–28 (max 113)

Antoinette quickly redeems herself by getting a perfect 10 in the numbers with 575. Kevin only declared 573, so failed to score again.

Round 15: D A N C E A L O T

Antoinette buzzes on 13 seconds to say ANECDOTAL which is correct. So Antoinette will dance a lot as she progresses to her 4th game. :P

Antoinette wins her 3rd game comfortably here as Kevin was clearly out of his depth against a very strong player who could very well go on to great things in this series. Will Antoinette go on to reach the Quarter Finals? Join Andy McGurn on Monday to see if she can win game 4. I'll be back next Friday. I hope you'll join me then. In the meantime thank you very much for reading, and goodbye. :)

Final Score: 103–28 (max 123)
