Television Appearance

Hi Guys,

I will be appearing on the Weakest Link on Tuesday 19th February at 5:15pm on BBC1 (notice the channel change from BBC2). General knowledge isn't my strong point - I'm an anagram man and as I lost my first game on Countdown, don't be too hopeful :P

I'll be away skiing, so wont be able to see you unfortunately. But I'll be with you in spirit. Hope it goes well. I look forward to reports of the show here.

Maybe we'll do a seance where we all put our hands on Kirk's crotch to summon Howard's spirit.

That, young man, is grim.

You're probably right Kirk, sorry.

I know that it's pre-recorded but we shall all still all be rooting for you. Good luck! :)

Today (11th February) is the anniversary of my appearance on Countdown - my first ever TV show. A whole 4 years ago now, seems to have flown by!

That's a small coincidence - today is also the anniversary of my teapot-winning appearance from 8 years ago.

I pass on to thee the wisdom that if you thought the first 4 years flew by - the next 4 will pass even quicker. ;)

Can't wait to see what Anne thinks of you being a trainspotter.

EDIT: I wonder if Kirk has also mentioned that his nickname is The Kirkulator (in darts anyway).

She'll do a dig before the vote of thingy, where she will say something like "Is someone off the rails" etc to imply that its Kirk.

Or she might do, "Three vibrant public sector industries still remaining, but which one looks like it was sold to Railtrack?"

Actually Weakest Link is the quiz I'd most like to do apart from Countdown. Any chance Kirk you could tell us what the audition's like and where it's held, so maybe I could have a go myself.

The auditions are held in your local area (various locations, similar to Countdown) and mine was held in York.

In the audition, there are 8 other hopefuls and one has to stand up and talk about yourself for 30 seconds to the others. Then, when everyone was done that, you play a round of the weakest link, after being reminded of the rules of banking etc. We all got our questions right and banked the virtual £1000. There is a substitute Anne Robinson who then goes round everyone picking on them to see how you react. Then there is a written quiz of about 30 questions and you have 5 minutes to answer them all and write the answers down. That's 10 seconds to read the question, think about the answer, answer the question and write the answer down. Needless to say I'd be surprised if you complete it.

Then, everyone is invited in individually to talk to the camera about the stuff on their application form. You look at the guy auditioning you, not at the camera, and the guy asks you questions to prompt your responses so you don't have to memorise anything. He asked me questions about my trainspotting antics and about me memorising pi and darts including my nickname. They also asked why I wanted to go on the Weakest Link and I said something like I would be perfect bait for Anne, being a single, darts playing, trainspotting, maths-loving young man. It worked. I passed.

They made me dance at my Weakest Link audition, the buggers.

(I passed it, btw, but they then told me 3 months later it'd been too long since I'd applied so I had to start all over again. I very politely them to piss off.)

Did you apply under the pseudonym Michael Flatley? Or perhaps attend the So You Think You Can Dance audition by mistake?

Actually, now that you come to mention it... no.

Kirky? What about the Kirkulator? Just watched it on tape. ZOMG u were hilarious! "e to the Pi i = 1" You should have told Emma the log cabin joke. Well done to Abraham who won. Is he like the oldest WL winner ever? Thought u would've got the Arctic Monkeys Q. Might've saved u. I was hoping Anne might touch on the trainspotting, but since she didn't, what exactly does it entail?

Prospective Anne-bait, Dinos

Well played Kirk and bad luck to you. Thought you were hilarious with Anne, hope you enjoyed the experience. Emma wasn't bad looking either.

Bad luck Kirk - great entertainment though!
If anyone missed it, it can be viewed for free during the next week via the bbc iplayer website.

Thanks all for your kind words. Yeah, other people got questions wrong here and there - I got them all wrong in the same round. I can't believe how unlucky I was with the questions!! Even in the first round with the Malkovich question - I hate films and everyone else was getting like "what 7 letter word is 'bike' short for?" and so on.

Corby, watch it on bbc iplayer online - it's on for the next week online!

Yeah, unlucky. I wouldn't have got any of the questions you got wrong. Liked the maths discussion and Anne certainly seemed to like you.

Oh no! Kirky voted out :(

Cool, you've just virtually said "I can't wait to get out of this little room so I can and go and crack one off over Emma" :)

This is great stuff

Although it's late, so once Emma gets voted off, I'm going to bed....

What the hell? The stupid iPlayer thing has just finished halfway through the round. What gives? There were still 4 of them left! :x

poor Kirky (pirky?)

I do wonder how they decide how 'difficult' a question is - I know "it's only easy if you know the answer" (well, except for the maths ones which you can work out), but they obviously try to make them get harder round by round, but it still feels laughably inconsistent

The first of Kirk's many social media skirmishes. :D
