So, it's a new week of Countdown, and with me having the heads up early doors, what better way to start the week than with an early dose of Robinson Recap goodness. ;) :) :D

Round 1: R P A O B S A X I

James: PAIRS (5)
Jason: PAIRS (5)
DC: ISOBAR (6)
OT: APORIAS (7)
Score: 5–5 (max 7)

A pair of PAIRS to start off today, admittedly I did no better the audience, but it was 10:30am :!: :P But, no pressure for DC with their 6, although there was a darrenic 7 there.......

An APORIA is an irresolvable internal contradiction or logical disjunction in a text, argument, or theory.

Round 2: U E O D S N S A M

James: AMUSED (6)
Jason: MOUSED (6)
DC: MADNESS (7) DAMSONS (7) DAEMONS (7)
OT: OSMUNDAS (8)
Score: 11–11 (max 15)

A couple of 6's from the contestants, a trio of 7's from DC, and a darrenic 8 left alone again.............

An OSMUNDA is a plant of a genus that includes the royal and cinnamon ferns. (Genus Osmunda, family Osmundaceae)

Round 3: 50, 7, 5, 2, 9, 7. Target: 147.

James: 147. (50 - (7 / 7)) x (5 - 2) (10)
Jason: 147. (50 - (7 / 7)) x (5 - 2) (10)
Score: 21–21 (max 25)

Not a taxing numbers game for our maths teacher and Apterite. :)

Teatime teaser: WANTPAIR -> WARPAINT

Round 4: E O I P D V S U J

James: POISED (6)
Jason: DEVIOUS (7)
DC: VIDEOS (6)
Score: 21–28 (max 32)

Jason takes the first lead of the day with this darrenic. Clearly my support is helping him on. ;) :P

Round 5: P E O R F S E F O

James: OFFERS (6)
Jason: OFFERS (6)
OT: OPEROSE (7) SPOOFER (7)
Score: 27–34 (max 39)

Not many better OFFERS in this round, apart from the two 7's, but no-one in the studio could spot them........

OPEROSE is an adjective meaning involving or displaying much industry or effort.

Round 6: 25, 50, 8, 10, 3, 4. Target: 147.

James: 147. Mistake in working.
Jason: 147. ((50 + 25) x (8 / 4)) - 3 (10)
Score: 27–44 (max 49)

147 returns again, and Jason gets it again, but James gets himself tangled in knots, and gives Jason an even bigger lead........

Anton talks about his recent tour with Summer Strallen, where he did a singing section, and how he messed up his first performance, yet no-one noticed......... :P

Round 7: S A O E T D L A T

James: TOASTED (7)
Jason: totaled
DC: TOADLETS (8)
Score: 34–44 (max 57)

Oh dear, an unfortunate Americanised spelling by Jason sees James creep back to within 10 points.

Round 8: I E I M Y N S B E

James: minies
Jason: MINES (5)
DC: MINIS (5) ENEMY (5)
OT: BINES (5) EENSY (5) IMINE (5) MESNE (5) MIENS (5) NEEMS (5) NIMBI (5) NISEI (5) SEINE (5) SEMEN (5)
Score: 34–49 (max 62)

Just plenty of 5's here, but James decides to try and stick an E in MINIS, and is punished for doing so. :(

IMINE is an organic compound containing the group —C=NH or —C=NR where R is an alkyl or other group.
In law, MESNE is an adjective meaning intermediate or intervening.
A MIEN is a person’s appearance or manner, especially as an indication of their character or mood.
A NEEM is tropical Old World tree, which yields timber resembling mahogany, oil, medicinal products, and insecticide. (Azadirachta indica, family Meliaceae)
A NISEI is an American or Canadian whose parents were immigrants from Japan.
A SEINE is a fishing net which hangs vertically in the water with floats at the top and weights at the bottom edge, the ends being drawn together to encircle the fish.

Round 9: 25, 3, 8, 10, 5, 7. Target: 611.

James: 612.
Jason: 611. (((25 x 8) + 7) x 3) - 10 (10)
Score: 34–59 (max 72)

Jason defeats the maths teacher fair and square in this round, and the lead is starting to increase further. I've no idea how I stayed calm and composed in the audience. :P

Teatime teaser: UPCINDER -> UNPRICED

Round 10: A O I R G N E S G

James: GREASING (8)
Jason: ORGANISE (8)
DC: SOARING (7) SEARING (7)
OT: GEARINGS (8) SEAGOING (8)
Score: 42–67 (max 80)

Some good 8's here, and we get a little laugh from Susie suggesting that she likes a good GREASING. ;) :P

Round 11: M R T O A V O E N

James: TAVERN (6)
Jason: MOONRAT (7)
DC: OVERMAN (7)
OT: ANTEROOM (8)
Score: 42–74 (max 88)

A very good spot of MOONRAT from Jason, although he wasn't paying attention to my little practice game on the train on the way to the studio............... :P

Susie's Origins of Words talks about the disappearance of the "silent K".

Round 12: A I E T G R L O P

James: POLITER (7)
Jason: PORTAGE (7)
DC: PILOTAGE (8)
OT: EPILATOR (8) PETIOLAR (8)
Score: 49–81 (max 96)

Interestingly unnecessary francising of words there by both Jason and Anton, but hey-ho, if points were penalised for pronunciation, then we might have a lot more lost points............. :P

Round 13: D L R I U M I R E

James: MILDER (6)
Jason: DELIRIUM (8)
Score: 49–89 (max 104)

TIME FOR SOME SCENES OF DELIRIUM :!: :!: :!: A superb finishing move from Jason to wrap up his victory. Let's see if he can get a century to top it off. 8-)

Round 14: 75, 25, 1, 8, 5, 4. Target: 780.

James: 775.
Jason: 780. ((75 + 25) x 8) - (5 x 4) (10)
Score: 49–99 (max 114)

Another win against the maths teacher for Jason, but he won't want to dwell on that 99 for long, as 109 is waiting for him........... 8-)

Round 15: I B E H I N D I T

Jason buzzes on 6.5 seconds to say INHIBITED which is correct.
Final Score: 49–109 (max 124)

And within 6.5 seconds, it's his :!: :!: :!: A superb debut by Jason there, against an opponent who did brilliantly with his 3 wins last week.

I'd like to say that my support helped him a bit, but I know very well that Jason didn't need it, and hopefully you'll see more of the same tomorrow, when Callum will be your recapper.

I'll be back on Thursday, after my trip to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

So, till then, bye for now. ;) :) :D  8-)

In R3 was surprised that nobody simply did 7x7=49 :? :o

In R8, I was hoping that NIMBYS (or NIMBIES) had made it into the ODO, but apparently it's still capitalized :(
