It seems to be quite appropriate for me to recap today, as it's World Autism Awareness Day, so I'll do my best to give a great recap. 8-) 8-) 8-)

And since it's my only recap this week, I'll have to do a fantastic one :!: :!: Enjoy. ;) :) :D  8-)

DC: Susie Dent and Colin Murray.
RR: Rachel Riley.
OT: Other words or solutions.

Enjoy the show.

Round 1: N L Q T O E O U N

Ann: QUOTE (5)
Jack: TONE (4)
DC: TUNNEL (6)
Score: 5–0 (max 6)

A slow start from the contestants, but it's Ann with first advantage, as Jack can't find the right TONE, while DC darrenically see the light at the end of the TUNNEL. :P

Round 2: R G I A N B I O M

Ann: ROBING (6)
Jack: BORING (6)
DC: ROAMING (7) IMBONGI (7)
OT: MINIBAR (7) ORIGAMI (7) ROBINIA (7)
Score: 11–6 (max 13)

A couple of anagram 6's, but DC get a couple of 7's in this one.

A ROBINIA is any of several North American trees belonging to the genus Robinia, of the legume family, especially Robinia pseudoacacia, having pinnate leaves and clusters of fragrant white flowers.

Round 3: 25, 9, 6, 3, 10, 10. Target: 264.

Ann: 263. (25 x 10) + 10 - 3 + 6 (7)
Jack: 263. (10 x 25) + 10 + 3 (7)
Colin :ugeek: : 264. ((25 + 3) x 10) - 6 - 10 (10)
Score: 18–13 (max 23)

A pair of 263's from the contestants, but once more, Colin comes up with the goods in the numbers. We need to get proper Celebrity Countdown, cos Colin would be tough to beat :!: :!:

Teatime teaser: DADBEGAN -> BANDAGED

Round 4: W R P E I Z A T N

Ann: PAINTER (7)
Jack: PERTAIN (7)
DC: TINWARE (7)
OT: REPAINT (7) TAWNIER (7) WIRETAP (7)
Score: 25–20 (max 30)

A few 7's in this flat round. :)

Round 5: D L R U E I A D P

Ann: PADDLER (7)
Jack: dialed
DC: DIAPER (6)
OT: EPIDURAL (8)
Score: 32–20 (max 38)

While Jack goes all American, Ann finds a PADDLER, but everyone misses the EPIDURAL, which can only be a good thing, surely. :)

Round 6: 50, 6, 5, 7, 5, 9. Target: 499.

Ann: 499. ((5 + 5) x 50) - (7 - 6) (10)
Jack: 499. (((5 / 5) + 9) x 50) - (7 - 6) (10)
Score: 42–30 (max 48)

Nice and simple numbers, even if Jack tried to make it trickier than it was :!: :P

Colin carries on with his sporting numbers theme, by focusing on superstitious numbers in sport. 8-)

Round 7: R P T M O E E I X

Ann: EXPORT (6)
Jack: exerpt
DC: REMOTE (6) EPITOME (7)
OT: OXIMETER (8)
Score: 48–30 (max 56)

Oh dear, oh dear, Jack's exerpt is an C short of being correct, while DC get a 7, and another 8 is left alone.

An OXIMETER is an instrument for measuring the oxygen saturation of the haemoglobin in a sample of blood.

Round 8: L T D A O S E I D

Ann: ISOLATED (8)
Jack: DILATES (7)
DC: SODALITE (8) DIASTOLE (8)
OT: DELTOIDS (8)
Score: 56–30 (max 64)

Ann's 8 leaves Jack feeling more and more ISOLATED now..........

Round 9: 25, 8, 7, 9, 3, 9. Target: 585.

Ann: 584. (25 x 8 x 3) - 9 - 7 (7)
Jack: 585. Mistake in working.
RR: 585. ((8 x 7) + 9) x 9 (10)
Score: 63–30 (max 74)

Oh dear, just when it seems that Jack might be getting back into the game, he finds himself over 250 away in the numbers, and Ann is now in full control, it seems.

Teatime teaser: CHASTENS -> SNATCHES

Round 10: S T O A R S R O E

Ann: ROASTERS (8)
Jack: ROASTERS (8)
DC: ROOSTERS (8)
OT: ASSERTOR (8)
Score: 71–38 (max 82)

A pair of ROASTERS from the contestants, while DC find some ROOSTERS, making them go cock-a-hoop probably. :P

Round 11: V N G T A I E A S

Ann: VANTAGES (8)
Jack: ventings
DC: VINTAGES (8) NAVIGATES (18)
Score: 79–38 (max 100)

Oh dear, Jack is still trying some sort of fightback, but having an 8 with a 2nd N that isn't in the selection isn't helping............... Great 9 from DC though. :D

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about the origins of "Oxford Comma".

Round 12: D H E I E S P A N

Ann: PAINED (6)
Jack: SNIPED (6)
DC: HANDIES (7)
OT: PINHEADS (8)
Score: 85–44 (max 108)

Ann has wrapped up the game, even with a PAINED expression on her face. :P DC handily come up with a 7, while yet another darrenic 8 goes begging.............

Round 13: M S Y H O E A O R

Ann: ASHORE (6)
Jack: MASHER (6)
DC: HOORAYS (7)
Score: 91–50 (max 115)

Ann has put herself in with a more than decent shout of getting a century here................., but she was also yesterday, and scored nothing in the last 2 rounds........

Round 14: 75, 6, 8, 2, 3, 1. Target: 638.

Ann: 638. ((75 + 6 - 1) x 8) - 2 (10)
Jack: 636.
Score: 101–50 (max 125)

Well, the century is wrapped up, can she make it a 111 :?:

Round 15: H E N N A P O E M

Ann buzzes on 24.25 seconds to say PHENOMENA which is correct.
Final Score: 111–50 (max 135)

After a long wait, Anne does indeed make it to 111, the 2nd highest score of the series, and has 4 wins to her name, along with a now greatly increased total of 358 points.

Unfortunately, thanks to Channel 4's coverage of the Grand National meeting at Aintree, Countdown is done for this week, and will return on Monday, when you can join Andy for the recap. I'll be back next Wednesday for my next recap.

Incidentally, if you're wanting a Channel 4 game/quiz show fix, the brilliant Fifteen To One returns to our screens on Saturday, hopefully bringing back memories of Countdown and Fifteen To One together in the early afternoon line-up. ;) :) :D

So, have a great weekend everyone, and see you soon. Bye. ;) :) :D  8-)
