Enjoy the show.

Round 1: S R D U I A P T E

C1: PRAISED (7)
C2: PARTIES (7)
DC: PASTURED (8) TRAIPSED (8)
OT: DISPUTER (8) STUPIDER (8) UPRAISED (8)
Score: 7–7 (max 8)

Some 7's here, but if Jay had stuck the U in front of his PRAISED, he'd have had a brilliant 8.............

Round 2: N U X H B O E D S

C1: unboxed
C2: HOUSED (6)
DC: BOUNDS (6)
OT: BUSHED (6) EXODUS (6) HOUNDS (6) NOSHED (6) SUNBED (6) UNDOES (6) UNSHED (6) UNSHOD (6)
Score: 7–13 (max 14)

I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that Jay is super unlucky with unboxed there, which certainly sounds a more than realistic shout.

Round 3: 75, 100, 50, 9, 9, 7. Target: 134.

C1: 134. 100 + 50 - 9 - 7 (10)
C2: 134. 100 + 50 - 9 - 7 (10)
Score: 17–23 (max 24)

Nice and easy 3 large to start off today, although what was wrong with 75 + 50 + 9, though :?: :P

Teatime teaser: PINGLUNG -> PLUNGING

Round 4: L C T A O M I S Y

C1: MOISTLY (7)
C2: MYSTICAL (8)
Score: 17–31 (max 32)

An outstanding darrenic 8 from Joe there and he's now in control of this game. 8-)

Round 5: R G V M U O E R I

C1: GROVE (5)
C2: GIVER (5)
DC: MORGUE (6)
OT: ERUVIM (6) GORIER (6) RIGOUR (6) VIGOUR (6) VOGUER (6)
Score: 22–36 (max 38)

Nothing much here in this round, suppose it's appropriate that MORGUE was among the beaters there. :P

Round 6: 100, 3, 7, 9, 6, 7. Target: 317.

C1: 317. ((100 + 6) x 3) - (7 / 7) (10)
C2: 317. ((100 + 6) x 3) - (7 / 7) (10)
Score: 32–46 (max 48)

Another fairly easy numbers game here. Joe is still tops here. :)

Gloria talks about her recent trip to the Republic of Ireland, and a conversation between an Irish farmer and an American tourist, and an old American war story told in an Irish pub.

Round 7: N D V E O E N T A

C1: DENOTE (6)
C2: ADVENT (6)
DC: NEONATE (7)
OT: ENDNOTE (7) NOVATED (7) TENONED (7)
Score: 38–52 (max 55)

A pair of 6's from the contestants, but the semi-regular NEONATE rears it head yet again, just like a real NEONATE, I guess. :P

Round 8: C T N I E S M A R

C1: smarties
C2: MINCERS (7)
DC: MISCREANT (18)
Score: 38–59 (max 73)

Oh dear, oh dear, a phantom 2nd S from Jay there has put Joe even further away, although there was a fantastic 9 there too :!: :!: ;) :) :D

Round 9: 7, 9, 5, 4, 8, 6. Target: 690.

C1: 690. (9 x 8 x (4 + 5)) + (7 x 6) (10)
C2: 700.
Score: 48–59 (max 83)

Well, the 6 small that he chose yesterday got him the win, but can it save him again today :?: :?:

WELL, I MUST SAY THAT IS ONE OF THE BEST 6 SMALL SOLVES BY A NON-APTERITE EVER :!: :!: :!:

And the gap has now shrunk to 11 points, and Jay wasn't that far behind at this stage yesterday, and he won. Is it gonna be history repeated all over again :?: :?: :?:

Teatime teaser: EASYQUID -> QUAYSIDE

Round 10: L N D I O R T E A

C1: DILATOR (7)
C2: RELATION (8)
DC: TOENAIL (7) ORDINATE (8) ORIENTAL (8)
OT: DELATION (8) DERATION (8) IDOLATER (8) RATIONED (8) TAILORED (8)
Score: 48–67 (max 91)

Well, if he misses easy 8's like that, then probably not.........................

Round 11: S P N R T I E S I

C1: SPRINTS (7)
C2: SPRINTS (7)
DC: INSPIRES (8)
OT: PRISTINE (8) SINISTER (8) SPINIEST (8) SPINSTER (8)
Score: 55–74 (max 99)

Clearly SPRINTERS was almost waiting to come out, but unfortunately, Jay seems to forget that you need 3 vowels, so luckily Rachel steps in, and makes sure all is OK, with just the SPRINTS for 7 and a few 8's on the side. :D

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about the origins of the foods "langue du chat", "Queen of Puddings", "Charlotte", "Victoria Sandwich", "Victoria Sponge", "Eve's Pudding", "mille-feuille" and "profiterole".

Round 12: N D A O P A S L M

C1: palomas
C2: panals
DC: ALMONDS (7) PANDAS (6)
OT: MANDOLAS (8)
Score: 55–74 (max 107)

Oh dear, a double blank here. Palomas again is very unlucky, as every Spanish speaking person will know that paloma is another name for a dove in Spanish. :geek: :ugeek:

A MANDOLA is an early lute resembling a large mandolin.

Round 13: R P H J E I O L R

C1: holer
C2: HOLIER (6)
DC: ROPIER (6)
OT: HIRPLE (6)
Score: 55–80 (max 113)

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, if only Jay had stuck the I in his holer, he'd still be in the game, but he doesn't, and so Joe is the new champion. :D

A HIRPLE is a limping gait.

Round 14: 75, 5, 5, 7, 8, 6. Target: 106.

C1: 106. 75 + (6 x 5) + 8 - 7 (10)
C2: -
Score: 65–80 (max 123)

Oh dear, oh dear. Joe completely blanks out, on a numbers where the number was literally right there, as if all the numbers were added up, you get to 106............. 8-) :geek: :ugeek:

Round 15: B E I N G T U F F

C2 buzzes on 8 seconds to say BUFFETING which is correct.
Final Score: 65–90 (max 133)

But, he does make up for it with the conundrum solve and finishes on a nice score of 90. Jay does at least have the consolation of getting a better score today than yesterday. :)

So, Joe will be back tomorrow, when Anthony will recap for you. ;) :) :D

Andy will then be around on Monday, but that's the only show next week, because of the Cheltenham Festival, so my next recap will be on March 19th.

So, see you then, and have a great weekend, everybody.

Bye for now. ;) :) :D  8-)

I'd have bet ANYTHING that UNBOXED was a proper word on that second letter game, because you have unboxing videos on YouTube. Guess it's not used enough to warrant inclusion in the dictionary...

EDIT - I also solved the 6-small selection on Numbers Game 3. I did 8x4 = 32, 32 - 9 = 23, 23 x 5 = 115, 115 x 6 = 690

It's where somebody buys something, like a new gadget or something, then films themselves opening the packaging and giving a first impression of it.

And people actually watch that sort of video? I suppose if people watch Michael Bay films, there most be some demographic out there this this would appeal to. Cellophane fetishists maybe?
