Round 1: S O T C I D B U H

Team 1 - Sean: THUDS (5) / Jack: nothing
Team 2 - Jon: butchsod x / James: BITCH (5)
DC: OUTBIDS (7)
OT: BUSHIDO (7), CUBOIDS (7), OBDUCTS (7)
Score: 5-5 (max 7)

James and Sean each get a 5. Unfortunately Jon’s young people word hasn’t made its way into the dictionary yet so it’s 5 all with a max of 7.

Round 2: 75, 25, 10, 8, 2, 4. Target: 840

Team 1 - Sean: 840. 10x75+4x25-8-2 (10) / Jack: 0
Team 2 - Jon: 840. ((25-8x2)+75)x10 (10)/ James: 824 (0)
Score: 15-15 (max 17)

Sean and Jon both solve the first numbers to earn their teams ten points each.

Joe reads a letter he sent after being fined for a parking offense in Birmingham, in which he threatens to kill a child.

Teatime teaser: DEESRING (He really should change it) -> REDESIGN

Round 3: M D A C E I R L S
Jimmy’s Distraction: Wearin g a Velcro hat and having Rachel throw balls at his head.

Team 1 - Jack: SCALER (6)
Team 2 - Jon: clamiders x
DC: MIRACLES (8), RECLAIMS (8)
OT: CAMELIDS (8), CLAIMERS (8), DECIMALS (8), DECLAIMS (8), MEDICALS (8), RADICLES (8)
Score: 21-15 (max 25)

Jon’s West Country term for an STD is disallowed so Jack’s 6 gives his team the lead.

Round 4: 25, 75, 7, 9, 5, 4. Target: 434

Team 1 - Sean: 427. Mistake in working.
Team 2 - James: 434. (75+25+9)x4-7+5. (0)
Score: 21-15 (max 35)

The producers relay to Jimmy that James had “blatantly” cheated, and Sean actually had 437, not 427, so nobody gets any points.

Joe tells a story of an e-mail exchange with a tabloid journalist.

Teatime teaser: NEATBUSH (Be careful; it could burn) -> SUNBATHE

Joe Wilkinson joins us after the break and introduces Countdown’s new mobile gift shop, but unfortunately all the merchandise appears to bear the image of Alan Shearer.

Round 5: O M P U T N E G A
Jimmy’s Distraction: Making a clay model.

Team 1 - Sean: gapt x / Jack: TUNE (4)
Team 2 - Jon: poumtang x / James: negatum x
DC: MONTAGE (7)
OT: AUGMENT (7), MAGNETO (7), MEGATON (7), MUTAGEN (7), PANTOUM (7), PUTAMEN (7)
Score: 25-15 (max 42)

Negatum isn’t valid and POONTANG was the spelling Jon was looking for, so Jack takes the points with TUNE for four.

Round 6: 25, 50, 6, 9, 2, 3. Target: 841

Team 1 - Sean: 831 / Jack: 831. 9x59x2025x3+6.
Team 2 - Jon: 841. 6x3x50-2x25-9 (1) / James: 841
Score: 25-25 (max 52)

Jon solves the numbers to draw the scores level.

Teatime teaser: TITSPOON (Better out than it) -> SPITTOON

Round 7: E O V D W A F P I

Team 1 - Sean: WAVED (5)/ Jack: cowdove x
Team 2 - Jon: AVOWED (6) / James DOVE (4)
DC: paedo x, WAIVED (6)
Score: 25-31 (max 58)

Jack uses two phantom letters to make a word that isn’t valid anyway, so Jon’s 6 gives his team the lead.

Round 8: F A R T B A K E S (conundrum)
Sean buzzes on 29s to say BREAKFAST which is correct.
Score: 35-31 (max 68)

Sean buzzes in right at the last second with the correct answer and steals the win for his team.
