Friday 24th January 2014 (8/10 Cats Series 2, Episode 4)

Post by James Robinson »

So, after a delay of 16 days from broadcast, I think it's time that I put up the final recap of the "Catsdown" Series 2 episodes.

Enjoy. ;) :) :D

8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown recap for Friday 24 January 2014.

Team 1:
*Dara Ó Briain, the host of Mock The Week, a panel show, which according to Jimmy is "a terrible idea that won't catch on". :P (Mascot - Pen, because he doesn't think a person of his age should have a mascot :!:  ).
&
*Sean Lock, Cheerful person, always smile on face, whatever is going on. ("Mascot" - Phone for his other job as an "Ask Jeeves" kind of person).

Team 2:
*Jon Richardson, the regular champion of "Catsdown". (Mascot - "Dust For Men" Whiteboard).
&
*Sharon Horgan, best known for Pulling, the opposite of Jon Richardson. :P  (Mascot - Kitty Calculator).

DC: Susie Dent, who dreads the word "cummingtonite", and Adam Buxton, likes nothing more than listening to his own podcast. (He also has TV screen behind him).

RR: Rachel Riley, whose appearance on Celebrity Mastermind was mentioned. :) (Only the best people go on Mastermind you know. ;) )
OT: Other words or solutions.

Tonight's winners will receive some Countdown undergarments for winning tonight's show. 8-)

Enjoy the show.

Round 1 (Picked by Dara & Sean): P I T R O S D N A
Jimmy's Distraction: Conga line with fancy dress people, with appropriate music.

Team 1 - Dara: SPRINT (6) / Sean: STRAND (6)
Team 2 - Jon: spitrod / Sharon: PRODS (5)
DC: SANDPIT (7)
OT: INTRADOS (8) PADRINOS (8) PARODIST (8) PAROTIDS (8) PONIARDS (8)
Score: 6–0 (max 8)

It seems that Jon hasn't learnt too much from last week's show yet, although he isn't going for 9's at least. A good pair of 6's from Dara and Sean give them the early lead. :)

Round 2 (Picked by Jon & Sharon): 50, 2, 6, 5, 1, 5. Target: 959.

Team 1 - Dara: 0. / Sean: 990.
Team 2 - Jon: 956. ((((5 + 5) x 2) - 1) x 50) + 6 (7) / Sharon: 3,055.
RR: 960. (7)
OT: 960. ((50 x (2 + 1)) + 5 + 5) x 6 (7)
Score: 6–7 (max 15)

Team 1 fall apart in this numbers game, despite having the maths genius of Dara on their team. 8-) Even more shockingly (to Sharon at least) the numbers is impossible. :o

Adam talks about focus by contestants by singing with the Countdown music in the background.

Teatime teaser: SUCKTIME -> MUCKIEST

The next round saw Sean and Sharon take on each other in the letters round.

Round 3 (Picked by Sharon): S E L T O N Z U A
Jimmy's Distraction: Getting a hawk onto his glove, but it was stuck on the top of the studio for a while. :p

Sean: TUNES (5)
Sarah: selton
DC: ZONULES (7)
OT: ELUANTS (7) ETALONS (7) LUNATES (7) SOUTANE (7) ZEALOTS (7) ZEALOUS (7)
Score: 11–7 (max 22)

Sharon somehow almost managed to fool Susie by making her think she said SULTAN, but she is eventually corrected and Sean's team's lead is restored. :)

The next numbers game is a matchup between the maths geniuses, Dara and Jon. 8-) :geek: :ugeek:

Round 4 (Picked by Dara): 25, 50, 10, 6, 3, 7. Target: 984.

Dara: 982. (50 x 10 x (6 / 3)) - (25 - 7) (7)
Jon: 981.
RR: 984. (((25 - 3) x 7) + 10) x 6 (10)
Score: 18–7 (max 32)

Dara makes amends for blanking out in the last round, while Rachel shows us all that this one is doable! :D

Adam talks about some old CD clips he saw on YouTube in "Commentary Corner".

Teatime teaser: APALEJON -> JALAPENO

Joe arrives on a Segway in a lion costume, as he's now "Head Of Youth Development".

Round 5 (Picked by Dara & Sean): I O E C R V R P O
Jimmy's Distraction: Drinking a "Drink Me" bottle and shrinking to a bobble-head version.

Team 1 - Dara: VOICE (5) / Sean: poivre
Team 2 - Jon: corropive / Sharon: VOICER (6)
DC: OVERCROP (8)
Score: 18–13 (max 40)

Nice of Sean to try and bring in some Frenchness to the proceedings, but poivre hasn't quite made it, so Sharon takes the honours in the Irishman stakes here. :)

Round 6 (Picked by Jon & Sharon): 100, 50, 6, 4, 8, 2. Target: 216.

Team 1 - Dara: 216. (50 x 4) + (8 x 2) (10) / Sean: (50 x 4) + (8 x 2) (10)
Team 2 - Jon: 216. (100 + 8) x 2 (10) / Sharon: (100 + 8) x 2 (10)
Score: 28–23 (max 50)

Let's skip over this and Dara's "Irish dancing".   :P :P :P

Teatime teaser: LADSHAPE -> SLAPHEAD

Round 7 (Picked by Jon & Sharon): A S E T O W E F B

Team 1 - Dara: WASTE (5) / Sean: befowest
Team 2 - Jon: FEWEST (6) / Sharon: TEASE (5)
DC: FATSO (5) BESTOW (6)
OT: FABEST (6)
Score: 28–29 (max 56)

Well, Jon and Sharon (who won £600 worth of Comet vouchers from Joe earlier in this round) have retaken the lead thanks to one of the FEW(EST) 6's available here. :P

Round 8: O I L Y P A N T S

No one buzzes. The answer was PONYTAILS.
Final Score: 28–29 (max 66)

Unfortunately, even with Rachel trying to help out Sharon by pointing to her own PONYTAIL, but no need in the end, as Jon's team have won by a solitary point in this low-scoring game. :)

So, that's done for now, and it'll probably be back soon on screen before the end of the year. 8-)

So, till then, join me for normal episodes any time soon. ;) :) :D  8-)
