Before Braintree I think it was me, Dave, Susie and Samuel at Notley and Fiona and Tom at Dunmow. Anyone else to declare?

Great Notley parkrun:
1 (1). Gevin Chapwell - 19:33 (73.06%) (800 points)
52 (2). Samuel Louis - 25:05 (51.43%) (600 points)
101 (3). Dave Ryan - 29:34 (53.33%) (400 points)
117 (4). Suzy Turner - 30:34 (57.69%) (200 points)
This was my first "win" at parkrun for over 4 years, and at a CO-event special as well!
Great Dunmow:
12 (1). Thomas Carey - 23:37 (54.62%) (667 points)
63 (2). Fiona Titcombe - 34:44 (52.11%) (333 points)
And the table:
1. Thomas Carey - 6969
2. Dan Byrom - 4348
3. Fiona Titcombe - 3325
4. Bradley Horrocks - 2862
5. Gevin Chapwell - 2189
6. Stephen Read - 1567
7. Mike Springett - 1471
8. Rachael Montgomery - 1366
9. David Hilton - 1223
10. Samuel Louis - 1100
11. Chris Marshall - 1078
12. Dave Robjohns - 842
13. Jonathan Wynn - 833
14. Oliver Garner - 750
15. Eeshan Malhotra - 600
=. Fiona Thorne - 600
17. Adam Latchford - 500
=. Matthew Tassier - 500
19. Callum Todd - 444
=. Dave Ryan - 400
21. Adam Beach - 222
22. Adam Dexter - 200
=. Tasneem Rana - 200
=. Suzy Turner - 200
25. Melody Coupe - 111
26. Steven Grady - 100
34,000 from 68 scores, averaging 500.
I believe it's just Milton Keynes to go. Carey has this sewn up unless we do a winner takes all of the top 8 that go to MK! (We won't do that.)

I don't think I'm allowed to run at MK now as it would tarnish my perfect points total

So new challenge idea (inspired by Maus finishing 10th at Vingis 10th event)
- simple version - finish in the position of the event number
- advanced version - finish in position of event number, 1 away, 2 away - how far can you go? (treat difference as absolute, so -1 and 1 are both 1 away). Call it your f-index (0 is a valid number for this index)
I knocked together a wilsonesque visual, but only works running locally (will investigate circumventing their scrapey blocker)
Mine looks like this so my f-index is 8 (happy to run for anyone else who wants it!)

Does that mean your closest finish to the event number was 8, or you've achieved this eight times, or something else?

it means at Frimley Lodge event #255 I finished 255th (0 away), at event #154 I finished 153 or 155 (1 away), at event #319 I finished 316 or 322 (3 away) etc. I've never finished in a position 9 away from the event number!
Yours looks like this, so at Edinburgh event #142 you finished 147th - you've never finished 4 away from the event number.

I think it's a challenge where being less speedy helps!
Here's the one for some random guy called Toby

I guess you don't have one - perhaps the f-index would be better incremented by 1. Would make your floating f-index more consistent too then

Milton Keynes was the last event of the year and we had 9 of us doing the
Linford Wood parkrun:
2 (1). Gevin Chapwell - 19:52 (71.90%) (900 points)
15 (2). Thomas Carey - 22:01 (58.59%) (800 points)
55 (3). Joseph Henry - 25:35 (51.53%) (700 points)
79 (4). Samuel Louis - 26:41 (48.34%) (600 points)
123 (5). Dave Ryan - 28:55 (54.52%) (500 points)
153 (6). Suzy Turner - 30:02 (58.71%) (400 points)
293 (7). Fiona Titcombe - 55:30 (32.61%) (300 points)
294 (8). Bradley Horrocks - 55:31 (23.24%) (200 points)
295 (9). Callum Todd - 55:32 (23.26%) (100 points)
Callum has a marginally higher percentage than Bradley because the 100% time from age 22 to 28 is 12:54, but for 29 (which Callum must be) it's 12:55. We also saw Matt Bayfield walking his dog.
And the table:
1. Thomas Carey - 7769
2. Dan Byrom - 4348
3. Fiona Titcombe - 3625
4. Gevin Chapwell - 3089
5. Bradley Horrocks - 3062
6. Samuel Louis - 1700
7. Stephen Read - 1567
8. Mike Springett - 1471
9. Rachael Montgomery - 1366
10. David Hilton - 1223
11. Chris Marshall - 1078
12. Dave Ryan - 900
13. Dave Robjohns - 842
14. Jonathan Wynn - 833
15. Oliver Garner - 750
16. Joseph Henry - 700
17. Eeshan Malhotra - 600
=. Fiona Thorne - 600
=. Suzy Turner - 600
20. Callum Todd - 544
21. Adam Latchford - 500
=. Matthew Tassier - 500
23. Adam Beach - 222
24. Adam Dexter - 200
=. Tasneem Rana - 200
26. Melody Coupe - 111
27. Steven Grady - 100
38,500 from 77 scores, averaging 500.
And Thomas Carey is crowned the 2024 champion! His winning margin of 3419 would have been enough to beat all but Dan and Fiona!

The hall of fame:
2017 - Gevin Chapwell (405 points)
2018 - Gevin Chapwell (410 points)
2019 - Gevin Chapwell (440.6 points)
2020-2022 - Callum Todd (6027 points)
2023 - Thomas Carey (5375 points)
2024 - Thomas Carey (7769 points)
From 2017 to 2019, the scoring range was between 0 and 100 points per parkrun rather than 0 and 1000.
Edited to add links to the results for each year.

I thought I ought to do a PB update as it's the off-season. There have been improvements from Thomas Carey, Dan Byrom, Junaid Mubeen, Dave Robjohns, Joseph Henry, Melody Coupe and Suzy Turner. There were rumours that Thomas beat his PB by going the wrong way on the course, but we have been assured that he will beat this PB soon anyway rendering it irrelevant.
Gavin Chipper wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2015 8:39 pm
Right, I'm going to put up a ranking list of Countdown/Apterous parkrunners. I'll check it every so often to see if anyone's beaten their PB, and if anyone is really insistent that they don't want to be on the list, then I can remove their name. And if I've forgotten anyone, let me know and I can add them. This list is unlikely to be anywhere near exhaustive.

Gavin Chipper wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2024 7:15 pm
OK, so here is the age-grade percentage list for you to look at. Some people have gone up; some people have gone down compared to the time list. You can see what has happened to you. A few random highlights - Tim Springett has gone from 8th to 3rd; David Williams has gone from 36th to 6th; Matthew Tassier has gone from 25th to 10th; Harry Whitehouse from 46th to 13th; Fiona T from 53rd to 21st. Interestingly Mike Springett has leapfrogged a few people and gone from 20th to 18th. He was in the 18-19 category when he got his best percentage, but there's not that much difference between that and being in your 20s I think. I think what did it for him was that he set his time in 2011, and they used to have different (easier) tables, so it's a bit of a hack! (Edit - Since this list is continually updated, the previous text isn't necessarily up to date.)

9. Chris Marshall - 38:54 (35.60%) (222 points)
10. Callum Todd - 38:55 (33.19%) (111 points)
5000 points from 10 scores, averaging 500.
By the way, as you probably know people can do any parkrun and go to the CO-event for it to count, including doing their home parkrun before setting out. However, there was some discussion about whether it should count if someone had just just the Friday event and gone home and then done their home parkrun. Or done their home parkrun on Saturday and then turned up on Sunday for the CO-event. What do you think? If, for example, there had only been a Friday or Sunday event and no-one at all had stayed over and done a parkrun near the CO-event, then it would seem weird for people's local parkruns to count. But then, what if one person had stayed over for the parkrun? Would that mean that it should count and therefore everyone else's as well? It's a minefield.

Also an honourable mention to Jono who ran a solid 23:45 (34th overall) but was disqualified for not going to CO:LON.

Anyway, nice to see that neither of you put the parkrun name in your Strava description, or went to the parkrun that actually has Sheffield in its title! And you went to different parkruns!

We've discussed age-graded scores on here before and I've previously claimed that it's biased to older people and women, and I think even more so old women. At the parkrun I was at today there were four people ahead of me on the age grading. They were:
1. 73F - 26:16- 89.15%
2. 71F - 28:13 - 80.21%
3. 75M - 23:46 - 79.73%
4. 61F - 25:26 - 76.28%
The top 3 are all in their 70s and 4th in her 60s. Sure, I could have cherry picked this one parkrun but it is something I've generally noticed.
But look at 1 v 3. A woman of "prime" age would get 56.36% with a time of 26:16. A "prime" man getting 23:46 would score 54.28%. I would say there's already a female bias at prime age (14:48 is easier for a woman than 12:54 for a man - the 100% times). But anyway these scores are quite close but in their 70s even though the woman is two years younger she's nearly 10% up. I don't know of any evidence that female runners age worse than men - if anything you'd expect the opposite based on the general population.
It's obviously based on very sparse statistics anyway at that age and it's not a professional sport at all so the standard will be much lower than at "prime" age even taking into account age differences.
The conclusion is that older women massively benefit from this system.
Edit - And don't get me started on London Marathon good for age times.

Actually no but thanks. I will read that. Well my main evidence is indirect - more older women getting super high percentages including over 100% than men.
Re: CO:parkrun Recaps

I've largely read the paper. It uses the world record times, which the age-grading system largely uses, so it would have the same potential problems. It does talk about the problem of "soft records" but has no way to properly account for it.
The third conclusion is that except for the swimming events there is more decline for women than for men, with the largest differences for the running events. This conclusion is, however, tentative because of the soft data problem. If the data are softer for older women than for older men, there will be in the future more records broken by women than by men, which in the estimation is likely to lower the decline rates more for women than for men. Will this be enough to eliminate the differences? It seems unlikely that the current estimates are this biased, but time will tell.
Whether or not the soft records fully account for the difference in men's and women's declines doesn't really matter. It only needs for there to be any bias at all to make it easier for older women to get higher percentages than older men. Anecdotally they do. So this paper hasn't really done much to change my opinion.
