Did I imagine this, or have I seen Jono in DC in one of my games.

Re: Characters you'd like to see
I'd like to see Philip Glenister as Gene Hunt from Life on Mars. You could put some great quotes in.
I've got 'Don't move: you're surrounded by armed bastards' as my text ringtone, and the joke hasn't worn thin yet!
Googling 'Gene Hunt quotes' brought up some corkers. Not sure how you'd work them into apterous though.

Re: Characters you'd like to see
Yeah, I had the same idea about Frank Gallagher from Shameless, but most of his best quotes don't really work out of context. I figured "Scatter!" would be a good one for the situation where DC doesn't have anything to offer, but gave up after that.Julie T wrote:Googling 'Gene Hunt quotes' brought up some corkers. (There was a great one this week, when Frank was talking about child stars who've gone off the rails and died in obscurity, "like the Artful Dodger, and, and.... Nicholas Lyndhurst." Monica: "He's not dead!" Frank: "I know, but have you seen the state of him lately?")

Michael Jackson.
If you cut a gandiseeg in half, do you get two gandiseegs or two halves of a gandiseeg?
Re: Characters you'd like to see
I can't bring myself to watch that, with what I've seen in the adverts. Bit too close to home.Phil Reynolds wrote:Yeah, I had the same idea about Frank Gallagher from Shameless......Julie T wrote:Googling 'Gene Hunt quotes' brought up some corkers. Not sure how you'd work them into apterous though.
I live in a council house, and there's a family in my street that makes the Shameless lot seem like The Brady Bunch.

That word was 'Off The Wall'?
Susie managed to 'Say, Say, Say' a longer word?
Bubbles thinks that you deserve a banana for that round?
I think that we can all be glad I don't make up the apterous stuff!

Oooh, has anyone suggested this yet? How about having as hosts the 'ones who got away'?
i.e. people like Stephen Fry and Alexander Armstrong?

Shakespeare is great, but there's a small glitch in his programming. He sometimes doesn't say the words, just $7 or something like that.

It's not very funny at all, any chance of having this one removed? We're not gonna add Harold Shipman and Ian Huntley, are we?Dinos Sfyris wrote:I'm quite warming to him actually. Maybe its Stockholm syndrome.Jimmy Gough wrote:Anybody else think Josef Fritzl is shit?

Re: Characters you'd like to see
I can only paraphrase Charlie as I can't (be arsed to) find the quote where he says this, but:
This one is neither funny, nor clever. If we want Apterous to grow (hence more paying members) I'm not sure that making references to illegal imprisonment and incest helps our cause a lot.Charlie Reams wrote:If a joke is offensive, it has to be funny enough to pay off its offensive debt.

I haven't seen the one in question, but I am also a proponent the Reams hypothesis, my interpretation of which leads me to conclude that there is no subject matter which can be ruled out.Martin Gardner wrote:I can only paraphrase Charlie as I can't (be arsed to) find the quote where he says this, but:

I'm surprised that Damian Eadie isn't one of the lexicographers. At least, I haven't seen him yet.
I also think there should be more than one Carol. An "80s Carol" or "Detox Carol" would be quite cool.
EDIT: I'll do 80s Carol myself.

I thought the Fritzl one was funny, but I think I had some glitch where he showed up every round, so the joke did wear thin.
I'd like to see a nod to that Fry & Laurie sketch. Gyles Brandreth in a jumper that says TWAT saying "As a celebrity rather than a member of the public, I naturally did rather better and came up with…"

And why make such a fuss about a fairly benign comment from one of the better comedians of today? Are you just jealous because he is so much funnier than you?

Sid Wadell please! He said something like "He's been doing mathematics that would have Einstein and Newton doing acrobatics!" and "it couldn't get more exciting if Elvis entered the building and asked for a chip sandwich!".
I also thought Dubya might be entertaining - "so long as I'm president, my measure of success is victory - and success".
