COOT '08 Quarter Final + Plate prelim!!!

Post by Jon O'Neill »

The draw has taken place!!

As for Plate drop-outs -- I have left everyone in the draw in case you suddenly become available before the deadline, which is Sunday 13th July. I've marked those players with a *. Same format as ever!

As there are thirteen players remaining in the plate, three byes are awarded to:

James Hurrel
Dan Vanniasingham
Matt Green

Well done guys.

The Plate preliminary round draw is:

Michael Wallace vs. Richard Brittain* (again!)
Matt Coates vs. Ben Pugh*
Jon O'Neill vs. Charlie Reams
Jon Corby vs. Karen Pearson
Dinos Sfyris vs. Howard Somerset*

Good luck all!

The COOT Quarter Finals look like this:

Martin Gardner vs. Kirk Bevins
Ben Wilson vs. Paul Howe
Julian Fell vs. Rich Priest
Damian Eadie vs. Jason Cullen

Good luck to you lot as well!

Me and Charlie are about to play our COOT prelim on MSN so if you're reading this then come and join the fun.

Yayyyyy!

Remember to let me know straight away if you're having problems contacting people. The forum PM system is probably the best method I can think of. Again, good luck all!

How's Tuesday evening for you Ben? Any time after 7 that suits is fine by me. If not I think it'll have to be at the weekend sometime.

ooooh... exciting. Why do we get a bye? Is it random or was it because of our losing scores?

I'm as usual free pretty much all week during the day and the evenings, I just have stuff to do in the day that I can get done before I get online.

If you cut a gandiseeg in half, do you get two gandiseegs or two halves of a gandiseeg?

Jason, Thursday night - 8pm is my earliest available. In studio all week prior to that.

Beyond that, pretty much any time after 7pm is fine on any other evenings.

Ok good stuff Rich, shall we say 6pm on Thursday then? Is anyone available to host at that time?

Btw - unlucky Karen with the draw again, I would've backed you to beat anyone in the Plate apart from Corby, and maybe Jono  Make sure you give Corby a run for his money won't you, also hope you'll play in some more tournaments in the future, and won't be too discouraged by these rough draws you keep getting!

Think of it as a pleasure to play some of these Countdown greats. Not many people have had the pleasure to do so which makes these CO-events (real life or online) quite special.

If you wanted to start today (Tues) at 5.45 or something like that, that would be fine by me. I think in that case we could finish before the second game started, so we just need a host. Otherwise I'll definitely be free Thursday as well.

Charlie would you be able to transfer the recap thread for Michael Wallace vs. Richard Brittain in the prelims from Current Recaps to Events (since all the other COOT recaps are here)?

It's been a busy evening but the results of the first 3 quarter-finals are in:

Kirk Bevins beat Martin Gardner 88 - 72 in a low-scoring game with neither player at his best.

Ben Wilson beat Paul Howe 116-106 in what critics are calling "The Game of the Century". Be sure to read the recap!

Damian Eadie beat Jason Cullen 87-65 in a comedy of errors.

That is putting it lightly Charlie :) . I screwed up on the first numbers when I actually had the target and me and Damian both declared a 10-letter conundrum in 1 second! The comical recap has been posted in the Events thread

True - that was embarassing. I think i peaked at 6pm today. Had a terrific 10 shows in studio though, where it matters i suppose. ADENOID was shambolic, and a 10-letter conundrum.........well, the great RW used to say "its a young mans game". I think i finally believe him.

I am on holiday 12th-19th, and I guess 1st round of Plate games need to be next week. I should be able to play on Sun 20th (maybe even evening of 19th) if this is OK with whomever it happens to be??

Otherwise I will have to withdraw.

Myself and Howard are looking to play what promises to be a horrendously low quality Plate prelim with maxes missed left, right and centre, on the morning of Monday 14th around 10/11, since he is currently in Austria and that is our earliest available opportunity. Any volunteers for a host at this ungodly hour? Jason?

The draw is probably tonight, because the last quarterfinal (Fell vs Priest) is due to be played at 6. If two players drawn against each other are online at the time then they might play straight away.

The draw for the SFs is on Sunday, along with the draw for the Plate QFs. I'll try and get the QFs and SFs of the Plate done for a big banging finals night on July 20th.

I'm hosting the finals btw, for fuck sake. It's my tournament.

I think that will be too many games for one night. I'd like to get the Plate QFs done before Wednesday or Thursday, ideally, to give the best chance of an unprecedented double finals night on Sunday. Sorry bro.

I've had no Internet since Wednesday afternoon until now, so I wasn't able to make it online yesterday evening. Sorry to Matt and all those who were there either as host or spectators. If there's any time that's easy for Matt to play before Sunday, then I would like to try to get this game done but if not, then he should go through on account of my no-show yesterday.

Just a reminder. Dinos and I are hoping to play our plate match sometime on Monday morning. Is there anyone likely to be available to host it? We are both away all day today, so won't be able to see any responses until late tonight.
