Where Does Countdown Rank On Your List Of Hobbies?

Post by Douglas Wilson »

Countdown is one of, if not my favourite tv shows; but I'm really on this forum just because I enjoy the quality of conversation and banter without it being too over the top. I've never had any inclinations to play along with the show or buy the board game or anything.

Obviously some of you actually see Countdown as a 'hobby', but on your list of overall hobbies where would you rate it?

Good question. I don't really watch the show that much any more - I don't have a TV Licence so the activation energy required to actually go and hunt it down on 4oD is just a little too great to make me bother. I don't play on apterous all that much either - it's a fun thing to do now and again, but I have several games consoles and hundreds of games to play on them, so in terms of 'gaming' I usually have more fun options. Also Scrabble is better than Countdown (imo), but it always feels like a much greater investment of time and energy than a quick wang against Prune, so I've kinda gone off that too.

Gaming is probably my main hobby, followed by statistics, and then probably music (I'm trying to learn how to play the guitar). Countdown ranks below that lot quite comfortably, I think.

Football first (soccer and gaelic inclusive), then probably Countdown.

Really?

Mind you, you're so fucking good that you probably spend 25-28 seconds of each round playing your trumpet though, so I think it's probably accurate.

*shudder*

But yeah I'd like to think music has played a bigger part in my life overall.

Right, because a list of numbers would make for a great topic.

If you include C4C, apterous, CDB, the wiki, going to the finals, and CO-events then it's probably my primary hobby. If you're only talking about watching the show then... way down.

Interesting, I didn't think someone with ginger hair would have masturbation that far down the ranking.

Yeah I kind of meant want Charlie said as 'Countdown' being the umbrella heading of all the things he listed. Should have made that clearer.

It's almost as far down as those with very little hair.

What happens to the list when you combine those? (Other than a sticky keyboard.)

Tough call - my top 3 hobbies are trainspotting, darts and Countdown but I can't put them into any real order. Trainspotting can get cold and lonely (if I don't go with anyone) and pounding away on apterous for hours can also get tedious so I'd probably rank them as darts, countdown, trains in that order.

Not a hurling man then? I'm definitely sub dividing music into at least 4 different hobbies. After that my only real hobbies are countdown and getting wasted, which I should really sub divide into two.
