Special Spoilers For Monday August 16th 2010

Post by James Robinson »

A new week is here, but unfortunately some horses wnat to hoof us out of our slot this week. Luckily, we've managed to hold them off for a day, so we can have the last of the 4 specials recorded earlier this year being broadcast.

And this one is a BIGGIE!

It's the rematch of all rematches. The 3rd and final match-up between Junaid Mubeen and Charlie Reams.

In case you don't know the background, Junaid beat Charlie in the Series 59 final by a 4-point margin, and then in the Champion Of Champions XIII quarter-final, Charlie got his revenge with a 9-point win over his nemesis.

So, Damian clearly felt that there should be an overall winner between these 2, and so we have this special to decide who is the best.

Here are the superstats:-

Firstly, Series 59 Champion Junaid Mubeen - 13 Games, 12 Wins, 1,257 Points. (Average: 96.69)
Highest Score: 124 vs. Neil MacKenzie (Series Quarter-Final)
Lowest Score: 74 vs. Jonathan Gilligan (7th Game)
9's Achieved: 3/7
Conundrum Success: 9/13

Secondly, Series 59 & Champion Of Champions XIII Runner-Up Charlie Reams - 15 Games, 13 Wins, 1,435 Points. (Average: 95.67)
Highest Score: 126 vs. Darren Edwards (2nd Game)
Lowest Score: 67 vs. Steve Briers (CoC Grand Final)
9's Achieved: 4/9
Conundrum Success: 6/15

Who will be victorious :?: Ryan will be around later.

I don't know who I want to win.

It would be great if there was a tie after 15 rounds and they decided not to have a 2nd conundrum :D :D

Weirdly enough, I was hoping that would happen as well.

Charlie might not be kind to those who say he'll lose, so if you want to stay a member on here, it might be a good idea to say "I think Charlie will crush Junaid easy".

EDIT: Should've put the extra smilie on originally. Oh well.

Well that puts to bed the debate over whether Charlie is ginger or blonde.

Pretty good stuff, although felt the numbers switcheroo was a bit harsh on Charlie when we all know he's the worst person in the world at maths. Thought the conundrum was a bit easy (tons of As and a K for good measure), but it's not on apterous (clearly Charlie cheated) so obviously can't really comment beyond personal opinion. Disappointed by lack of hug (no homo), and Charlie not declaring a Q-with-no-U despite writing the wikipedia page on it.

All in all, 7/10.

Fantastic show you guys. Very enjoyable to watch. As much suspense as Chris vs. Kirk's special.

Some amazing spots in the letters games. I was actually happy to solve all 3 numbers games in this one, although the last one was slightly late. ;) :) :D  8-)

1st Numbers Alt. (Using All The Numbers): (62 + 7 + 1 - 5) x (12 - 10) = 130

2nd Numbers Alt.: (87 x 8) + (12 x 3) - 8 = 724

3rd Numbers Alt.: ((37 - (6 x 4)) x 5 x 10) - 1 = 649

Just watched this, thought the best player on the day won. You both seemed to have fun (Charlie slightly more so).

Great game to watch with some fantastic spots, and a super fast conundrum.

I would have went for THEODOXY^ in one of the rounds which must be gash!

Well done Charles, great game.

You both did very well on the personality front too. I especially liked Junaid requesting a round of applause.

This seems an opportune moment to unleash my comeback post...

Have to start by congratulating Charlie; simply too good for me on the letters (ISOTOPIC left me stunned) and clearly a deserved winner. I bottled a couple of rounds (DEODARS!) but felt realLY lucky to even be in it going into the conundrum. I probably wasn't as relaxed as usual, for various reasons, but still had a blast. Thanks to the production team for having me back yet again!

Finally, a small request:

BEST OF 5 !!!

Just watched on 40D, well done both, very enjoyable.

Was Charlie imitating Hansford with "0 away"?

I'm sure he was, but it would have meant little to Jeff and Rachel.
I thought I was good at Countdown until I joined this forum

Whereas Des O'Connor retained every quirky detail about each contestant during his time on the show and would have found it HI-larious

I was just listening to this song and I was pleasantly surprised to hear BALALAIKA mentioned at 1:29. Nice when a word you've never heard of before crops up shortly after.
