Countdown recap for Tuesday 22 June 2010.

Welcome to another Friday morning early-bird recap. Join me for breakfast while we catch up on Tuesday’s Countdowny events. I’m having eggy soldiers. The sun is shining. Here’s hoping we’re in for a wonderful weekend.

C1: Champion Scott Gillies (6 wins, LOTS of points.) Home-grown Apterist and keen golfer. He’s shown kwality skillz on both the letters and numbers and could be an early contender for the series title. His top score so far is 108.
C2: Challenger Judith Hunt from Marston Green in Solihull, a mobile complimentary therapist who does massages and tingz. She was introduced to Countdown by a client who forced her to watch the show before getting a massage. I hope this is the way most of us on here would treat a lady.
DC: Susie Dent and Aled Jones.
RR: Rachel Riley.
OT: Other words or solutions.

R01: D C M E I U E F T

Before we begin Susie says she can only sing in the shower and she promises that’s all we’ll hear. Tune in to a raunchy Origin of Words later then…

Round 1: D C M E I U E F T

C1: emuted
C2: DEFECT (6)
DC: TUMEFIED (8)
Score: 0–6 (max 8)

Great 8 from DC. Scott takes a punt after Judith declares 6. Jeff asks him what he thinks it means to which Scott’s reply is “Nothing!” He’s right.

Round 2: Y P L O U E T C I

C1: POULTICE (8)
C2: POETIC (6)
OT: EPICOTYL (8)
Score: 8–6 (max 16)

EPICOTYL is a cracking word to do with plants. I wonder who has the pencil for it?

Susie tells us POULTICE means to apply a soothing gel. I’m positively tumescent at the prospect of Origin of Words now…

Round 3: N T A A I S E M U

C1: ANIMATES (8)
C2: unmast x

C1: SPANNED (7)
C2: spinned
DC: PANSIES (7)

Surely you all remember APSIDES as a chicken in this game?

Round 7: D R O I E O T R S

C1: ROOTSIER (8)
C2: STORIED (7)
DC: ROOSTER (7) ROISTER (7) RIOTERS (7)
OT: ODORISER (8)
Score: 47–16 (max 55)

ROOTSIER is the comparative of rootsy which means showing ethnic origin.

Round 8: X L P A O I R G E

C1: POXIER (6)
C2: GRAPE (5)
DC: PERGOLA (7)
Score: 53–16 (max 62)

Round 9: J A U L O M Q E P

C1: OPAQUE (6)
C2: EQUAL (5)
DC: AMPOULE (7)

Round 12: I T D R E A E S R

C1: DREARIEST (18)

Score: 94–16 (max 105)

Hahahaha. Bang!

Round 13: D T N A O E O S Z

C1: ODONATES (8)
C2: ozones x
Score: 102–16 (max 113)

It’s not going well for Judith.

Round 14: 100, 2, 6, 1, 9, 9. Target: 446.

C1: 446. (100+9)x(6-2)+9+1 (10)
C2: 446. (100+9)x(6-2)+9+1 (10)
Score: 112–26 (max 123)

Scott breaks his high score. Can he put a perfect topper on it with the conundrum?

Round 15: S O X L I N E U P

C1 buzzes on 3 seconds to say EXPULSION which is correct.
Score: 122–26 (max 133)

Yes he can! Scott crushes his opponent with a score ratio of nearly 5:1. Join Robbo with Wednesday’s recap to see if he becomes an octochamp.

He does

No, that belongs to none other than Julian Fell, a 109 point margin, and at the time the highest score for this.
