So, welcome to the 2nd half of this week's Robinson Recap.

Yet again, we have an Essex derby in the offing, do they not know of any other counties in the UK :?: :?

Countdown recap for Thursday 20 May 2010.

C1: Champion Danny Pledger (4 wins, 327 points.) From Southend-On-Sea, Essex. He's married to Kirsty and has a daughter called Saffron, and they have another child on the way. He's a complete rollercoaster geek. :geek: :ugeek:
C2: Challenger Derek Metson. From Brightlingsea, Essex. He's a bookseller and former professional photographer. He also enjoys gardening, reading and walking. The most daring thing he's done has been to take part in a demonstration against animal imports in his local port. It's been his ambition to be on the show since 1995.
DC: Susie Dent and Colin Jackson.
RR: Rachel Riley, 2-1 favourite to win Rear Of The Year 2010. ;)
OT: Other words or solutions.

A ROBATA is a type of grill used in Japanese hibachi restaurant for cooking food in front of the customers.

Round 2: D T R S I E I R E

C1: STIRRED (7)
C2: SERRIED (7)
DC: RETIRED (7)
OT: DESTRIER (8) SIDERITE (8)
Score: 13–13 (max 14)

A DESTRIER is an archaic term for a warhorse.
A SIDERITE is a meteorite consisting almost entirely of metallic minerals.

Round 3: K L R P I A L E U

C1: pullier
C2: PALLIER (7)
OT: PLEURAL (7)
Score: 13–20 (max 21)

A dubious 7 by the champ gives Derek the first lead of the game.

PLEURAL means of or pertaining to the PLEURA, a delicate serous membrane investing each lung in mammals and folded back as a lining of the corresponding side of the thorax, or of or pertaining to a PLEURON, the lateral plate or plates of a thoracic segment of an insect.

Round 4: G T P Q A O E A T

C1: POTTAGE (7)
C2: TEAPOT (6)
Score: 20–20 (max 28)

But Danny gets back in it with a nice darren.

Round 5: 25, 3, 9, 1, 8, 5. Target: 461.

C1: 463. ((3 - 1) x 9 x 25) + 8 + 5 (7)
C2: 463. ((3 - 1) x 9 x 25) + 8 + 5 (7)
RR: 461. (((25 x 9) + 8) x (3 - 1)) - 5 (10)
Score: 27–27 (max 38)

A tricky numbers there, brilliantly solved by the frontrunner for the Rear Of The Year 2010 award. 8-)

Colin talks about his time on the show The Making Of Me, where he was involved in a muscle biopsy to see how he became a brilliant hurdler.

Teatime teaser: GIFTFAIR -> GRAFFITI

Round 6: S M D S E O U O L

C1: MODULES (7)
C2: LOOMED (6)
DC: MOOSED (6)
OT: DOLMUSES (8)
Score: 34–27 (max 46)

Danny gets the lead for the first time today with that 7.

Round 7: H C N I A T M E D

C1: MACHINE (7)
C2: MACHINED (8)
DC: MATCHED (7) ANTHEMIC (8)
Score: 34–35 (max 54)

Ouch :!:  Danny will be kicking himself for not adding the D to that 7.

Round 8: B T V R O E I F T

C1: FITTER (6)
C2: BITTER (6)
DC: OBVERT (6)
OT: BETTOR (6) TITFER (6) OBITER (6) TRIVET (6)
Score: 40–41 (max 60)

Round 9: R N U E U D M P E

C1: DUMPER (6)
C2: ENDURE (6)
DC: PERMED (6)
OT: DEMURE (6) ENURED (6) MENDER (6) PRUNED (6) PUDEUR (6) PUREED (6)
Score: 46–47 (max 66)

2 flat rounds in a row keeps Derek's lead to a slender 1 point.

Susie's Origin Of Words talks about the origins of the word "blue".

Round 10: 5, 4, 10, 8, 6, 9. Target: 862.

C1: 862. ((((5 + 4) x 9) + 6) x 10) - 8 (10)
C2: 860.
Score: 56–47 (max 76)

Unfortunately, Derek's 6 small gamble doesn't pay off, as Danny gets the 10 points to create the biggest lead of the game so far.

Teatime teaser: IMENAMEL -> MELAMINE

Round 11: A I N Y S C E I S

C1: INCISES (7)
C2: SINCE (5)
DC: ICINESS (7) CASEIN (6)
OT: INCASES (7)
Score: 63–47 (max 83)

A brilliant 7 by Danny sees his lead shoot up into double figures.

Round 12: N F L M A E O N I

C1: INFLAME (7)
C2: INFLAME (7)
DC: MINNEOLA (8)
Score: 70–54 (max 91)

Round 13: S T W U A G P E I

C1: PASTIE (6)
C2: WAGES (5)
DC: UPSTAGE (7)
Score: 76–54 (max 98)

Danny's 6 seals the game, as DC get their 2nd consecutive darren with that 7.

Round 14: 9, 1, 7, 2, 8, 5. Target: 405.

C1: 405. ((8 x 5) x (9 + 1)) + 7 - 2 (10)
C2: 405. ((8 x 5) + 7 - 2) x 9 (10)
Score: 86–64 (max 108)

At least Derek got max points in this 6 small, but Danny's on for a very good score if he gets the conundrum.

Round 15: D R A G C H E E R

C1 buzzes on 15.5 seconds to say RECHARGED which is correct.
Score: 96–64 (max 118)

And he does indeed get the conundrum, giving him his best score in his run so far.

A win tomorrow should see Danny bordering on certain for a place in the finals.

I'll be back next week, after this weekend's brilliant Co:Lon competition, which I'm looking forward to attending.

So till then, bye bye.
