Spoilers For Monday March 22nd 2010

Post by James Robinson »

Anger  , sadness  , sheer annoyance :x . Just some of the things experienced by most of us after that brilliant special game between Chris & Kirk last week. Not because of the lack of quality (any of you who were on Apterous around 11pm last night will know what I'm on about. ;) ), but because Countdown was forcably excluded from our lives for the rest of last week.

But, now the horse have gone back to their stables and normal service can now resume, in what is a landmark week for Countdown.

Not only is it the 5,000th episode this week, but former host Des Lynam will be returning to our screens at the end of the week. ;) :) :D

But, for the here and now, we've got a 5-time champion in Kevin Davis, the Milton Keynes man with more brains than fashion sense, hoping to be an octochamp on Wednesday. Can he do it, or will he be another Series 62 nearlyman...

In DC for the majority of this week is Masterchef presenter Gregg Wallace, making his debut next to our Susie.

I think we're all excited about the return of the show, as well as Howard's recap later on. ;) :) :D  8-)

Is there anybody here who has, or would like to have, more fashion sense than brains?

Good game.
Well played both players, good spot on the Conundrum Dave to clinch it.

MITOGENS.

Unlucky Kevin, great game today to watch. Based on your track record on conundrums I thought you were going to take it.

Good contest today. Was quite cringeworthy watching in the studio after Dave had won and went to shake Kevin's hand and Kevin just looked at Dave, put his hand up and basically implied "I'm not shaking your hand now...I'll shake it after" which I thought was a bit odd. There's not a set time to shake hands...I think I shook hands with Davies at the start, after the conundrum and at the end lol. Anyway the editing suite was on the ball and just showed Jeff smiling away :)

Wouldn't call it a track record. Out of the five last week, three were missed, I got one, and one of my opponents got one. :)

GONADAL will haunt me though...had it written down and thought "nah, I've made that up!"

For some reason, I had it in my head that you were supposed to shake it at the credits...odd, really, because I shook with Jamie right after the conundrum.

My bad. :(

Can't remember the clue but it basically was a pun on "I'll burn them" (I think?)

Happy that Dave won, although I thought he'd ballsed it up with not getting the 6 small target at the end and then that conundrum just went on so thought Kevin had squeezed through again. Nice one Dave! :D

Alburnum isn't a tree, no. It's the white of an egg.

Dunno if I'm missing a joke here but albumen is the white of an egg isn't it? Good game today, I started to miss Countdown last week.

Edit - Okay I'm probably missing a really obvious joke....please be gentle in the put down.

No worries craig, it was my lame attempt at punning. Alburnum isnt a tree and Kirk is wide of the mark this time. Laburnum is the tree, alburnum is newly formed layers of wood on a branch.

Both Dave and I were thinking "laburnum"...neither of us had heard of the actual answer, but with hindsight it does fit better.

Fair enough, as long as it wasn't me being stupid. I had no idea of the answer, I really should learn more words that don't use e.

Nothing against Kevin but glad he lost today, he probably would have overtaken me had he won and that would have been very mean of him.

REDLINE in one of the early rounds for a DC-beater.

Bad luck Kevin, thought you'd come through there especially after he picked 6-small, got a not-too-challenging one and then failed to solve it.

Yep. I was just hoping I might get to post that one, as I normally miss the muso ones that I ought to get.

Good game. I thought Kevin's "I've got 810" sitting-back-in-his-chair might have given Dave the spur to find the solution, which could have cost the game earlier.

Haha, a quote from my wife (who rarely swears BTW) about 20 seconds through that round:

'What the fuck's he being so smug about? He only did some fucking sums, it's not like he's actually achieved anything. Jesus'
If I suddenly have a squirming baby on my lap it probably means that I should start paying it some attention and stop wasting my time messing around on a Countdown forum

Just read the clue from the recap: TTT: LUNARBUM - "I'll set fire to newly formed layers of wood".

Fair enough...ALBURNUM makes perfect sense. Sorry for misremembering.
