-------------------------------

Today's players both found the maximum 8 times out of a possible 14. So that's a pretty high standard of play I'd have to say. A very good game. Jonathan now has 4 wins and 379 points, so needs just 42 points or one more win to effect a cullin' of Mr Cullen as it were from the knockout stages. In the event of another strong player emerging there are just 7 games remaining before the knockout stages begin.

I make it 8 games remaining before knockout stages.
Also, I think that Jonathan needs either another win or 42 points to knock out Jason. :)

So after 105 games, JaCu is going to be knocked out of the seed list. Thats some record though JaCu :D.

Yes, it could well be some record - the longest time in the seeding list without making the finals.

However, anything could well have happened this week. Those who were there will know. But for the rest of us, we can only surmise. It is, of course, quite possible that one of the top eight seeds might not have been able to get to the finals - it's happened before. And then the 9th in the list would get to play.

We've just got to wait and find out. :)

Its been quite a series indeed where a lot of players have only lasted a few games, when people thought they would've become octochamps or got a few more wins. I think anyone in JaCu's position would not want to miss out after being in the seed list that long, so it would be nice if JaCu got to play.

I should've gone to find out :(, but don't have to wait long to find out the outcome.

Joseph :D.

P.S. HoSo (depending on how you pronounce it) sounds Chinese/Japanese to me :D .

Howard is quite correct and Mr. Coles only needs 42 points (even if he loses) to effectively knock me off the leaderboard after months of struggle  . But I was in the audience for Jonathan's fifth game (for moral support to Jonathan of course  ) on Tuesday and it is a miracle that I am still on the board after so long and I am told it is a record. But did lightning strike twice (in terms of miracles) and did Jonathan fail to get the points he needed to secure his place? I will leave that for you to speculate but as you guys saw recently on Tuesday, it is not impossible for a champion to score less than 42 points (as poor Lee found out!) against my threat.

It will all become clear on Monday. Watch this space... ;)

Well, after that build up, I'm going to have to watch Monday's game pretty quickly, even live, if I can manage to rearrange a student. Can't wait, now. :)

It may not be impossible, but after Jonathan having 4 good games, I don't see him scoring less than 42 points :(.

Could this record be renamed the 'Tim Henman at Wimbledon record'?

But if, miraculously, Jonathan doesn't get the points he needs on Monday, we could have the situation of a player (Jason, obviously) playing in the finals of a series despite having not won a single heat game in that series, which would also be noteworthy.

Such a thing has happened before, but under different circumstances. Vicky Smith played in the Series 40 finals in spite of not having won a heat game in that series. In her case, she'd qualified for the Series 39 finals but had been unable to attend.

The thing is, it's going to take a really brilliant player to beat Jonathan and reduce his scoring to less than 42, and such a player would in all likelihood win at least 5 games himself.

Yes I'd heard of Vicky Smith... my late uncle was one of her defeated opponents in the series 39 heats. And I remember from Mike Brown's site that a player who'd lost his/her only heat game still played in the finals of one of the early series (series 2?), because there were 16 players in the finals for that series, and because of that and the fact that series were really short in those days, he/she didn't actually have to win a game to get on the leaderboard! Whimsical days indeed...

Can't figure this out. The contestants were only given 7 points for getting the target exactly, and both of the methods given as 853 evaluate to 851. Any know what really happened there?

An educated guess would be that the target was indeed 851, but the contestants both actually got 853, and CV got 851.

Quite correct. Both contestants declared 853. CV got the required target of 851.
