Should this forum hold a Countdown award ceremony?
I couldn't fit annual in the title.
Categories should include: game of the year, Octorun of the year, favourite conundrum, favourite jeff moment, favourite Rachel moment and favourite guest.

Re: Should this forum hold a Countdown award ceremony?
Sounds like a good idea. Two years ago Anthony Endsor started what was going to be an annual C4C Countdown Personality Of The Year, but he is obviously one of those people who don't like forums (fora), as he joined here right at the beginning but has never posted. So, that could definitely be one of the categories.
Would the awards be both about the programme and about the forum? There is probably an endless list of both silly and deadly serious awards you could give out if it was.
The Charlie Reams Award for Best Website, and Jon Corby Award for Best Post would probably be in the bag every year though, and not even need to be nominated.

Films have The Oscars, television has the Emmys, music has The Grammies......countdown (or the C4C forum) should have The Charlies.

It's definitely an interesting idea.
The categories should definitely be split between show and forum.
For the show, we could have:
Best Player Overall
Best Individual Performance
Best Word By Player
Best Number Solution By Player
Rachel's Best Dress
Jeff's Best Gag
Best DC Guest
Best DC Find On Pencam
For the forum, we could have:
Best Forumite
Best Newcomer
Most Interesting Post
Obviously, the list is virtually endless.

Why do we just have "Rachel's Best Dress" and not "Rachel's Best Numbers Solution"?James Robinson wrote:It's definitely an interesting idea.

Funnily enough "Marc's award ceremony" is an anagram of "I found this one before Dinos neh neh neh neh neh"

Why have three people voted for "only if Damo sanctions it"?

If I suddenly have a squirming baby on my lap it probably means that I should start paying it some attention and stop wasting my time messing around on a Countdown forum

Last time I looked, award ceremonies are normally annual events, so that mean that both Kirk & Chris would have a good chance of that award.Jon Corby wrote:What about Kirk?Matthew Green wrote:Well what about Chris fucking Davies? Having said that, we also had the CoC's this year, so Steve Briers should also be in the running.

I'd be interested in best Apterous player. Ratings don't tell you the whole picture. When I look around at the statistics, the person that I generally find most impressive, who I also think has an above 50% winning rate against everyone he's played, is Paul Howe.

Good Apterous awards would for most gracious player, worst behaved loser, biggest cheat, worst quitter, best number solution, best 9 letter find.

Similarly winning a Countdown Series doesn't tell you the whole picture.Gavin Chipper wrote:I'd be interested in best Apterous player. Ratings don't tell you the whole picture.

Yes.
I think there should be an award for "Most Interesting Word by Player." Then, we can all make it seem like you-know-what show!
Oh, Stevie-Fry-an-egg-this-summer, Please give us some ideas!
Just kidding!

Another award should be for best Countdown personality, awarded to a contestant who might not necessarily have been the best at the words and numbers, but provided good television nonetheless. Hamish would be a strong contender for this.

Saw this: 1000 Ways to Die last night, in which a lonely Russian soldier stationed near Chernobyl has said Raccoon-loving member chewed to bits by said Raccoon. Apparently based on a true story.Michael Wallace wrote:Only if every award is for "most awesome Raccoon-loving member".
