Bounteous aptominichallenge

Post by Ben Wilson »

With Charlie's permission, I have a little challenge for all your apterists out there. I look at this page and there are a surprising number of formats that don't have that bold number in their 'maxes' column. Some aren't even close to perfection. Therefore, I am placing 'bounties' onto 13 formats. Achieve or surpass them, and you get a special little trinket.

FORMAT- TARGET TO BE ACHIEVED

Speed 15- PERFECT

Goatundrum attack- PERFECT

Letters Attack- 19+ MAXES

Bullet 15- 14+ MAXES

Hyper 15- 14+ MAXES

Hypernundrum attack- PERFECT

Hypergoatdown 15- 14+ MAXES

Junior Letters Attack- PERFECT

Touchdown 15- 14+ MAXES

Goatblitz- PERFECT

Hypertouchundrum attack- 15+ MAXES

Hyper Unlimited 9- PERFECT

CSW 9- PERFECT

Wow, I didn't think the apterous community at large would be so intimidated by this little task. Ah well. :)

Might have a go at another challenge if the Scrabble study allows.

Not sure if this is the right topic.

I think we could set a group challenge for all apterous users to get the number of perfect 9 rounders up to 100. I think A time span of 100 days would also be reasonable, if we could encourage people to play 9 rounders instead of 15 rounders.

Kirk's nailed the 19+ Letters Attack (though evidently forgot this topic existed).

3 of these still remain to be achieved. Nobody has got:
  • - Perfect game in a Junior Letters Attack
    - 14+ maxes in Hyper 15
    - Perfect game in Hyperunlimited 9

These are all done now. Actually have been for some time.

7 October 2011 - Junior Letters Attack
11 March 2010 - Hyper 15 (14 maxes) - presumably Round 5 wasn't recorded as a max when Ryan wrote his post
30 Jun 2012 - Hyper Unlimited 9

What's more, as of yesterday, all of the formats on Ben's original list have now been maxed!
Mike Brown: "Round 12: T N R S A E I G U

C1: SIGNATURE (18) ["9; not written down"]
C2: SEATING (7)
Score: 108–16 (max 113)

Another niner for Adam and yet another century. Well done, that man."

Indeed, standards have raised to ridiculous levels over the past few years, there are very few challenges that have yet to be beaten by the community.

Some of those, however, are:

-a perfect Lockdown letters attack
-a perfect Instant conundrum attack
-14 or more maxes in any hyper blitz format (hyper, hypergoat, hyperlock or hypertouch)
-a perfect Hyper Nasty 9
-a perfect Omelette Blitz
-a perfect Spoilage 9
-a perfect CSW conundrum attack

Not that I'm issuing a formal challenge or anything of course. :)

This is a max game, but there could be some debate as to whether or not it is a 'perfect' game.

Let's have that debate. I say it's perfect. Are you saying it's because you declared in invalid word? Had you declared nothing, I don't think it would have been any more perfect. In a numbers game I normally click on the target at the start, and if I notice it's impossible, I don't always bother changing the declaration.

I don't think that me declaring an invalid word is the reason for it being imperfect, as an invalid word is no different really from nothing at all, so I might as well have had a go. I just think that if someone else were to max a Lockdown LA with valid declarations in all rounds (so no impossible rounds), then that would somehow be more perfect than mine.

A max game is a max game, even if you have a futile stab at an impossible round.

A "perfect" game is something else entirely, imo. ie the top possible score in every round, so 200 point NA or CA or a theoretical 230 point 15 rounded or 360 point LA (that's a challenge for Conor).

It's a little like the Allan Saldanha 'max game' in the Supreme Championship, where he scored 7 pts, the max, on the numbers for three away but one away was possible. FWIW, I think Callum did get a max.

I wouldn't even say it's like that. I wouldn't call Saldanha's game a max game.
