You know his opponent is another Apterous player, stop being so bloody cryptic and tell us who it is!
Incidentally I am going to the pub with all my mates to watch Countdown today in a totally unrelated matter that offers no hints at all as to which Apterite may or may not be on today's show.

Cool. I'm looking forward to this now, especially as you've just described yourself elsewhere as "18 years old and in pretty good physical shape"Jeffrey Burgin wrote:You know his opponent is another Apterous player, stop being so bloody cryptic and tell us who it is!

I'm wearing a shirt though, so no hint of the rippling biceps. Try and watch out for an overly large hand though, as I recorded two days after the end of my exams and so after so much writing my right hand was about twice the size of my left.Jon Corby wrote:Cool. Good from Jeff on the first numbers. Gets it within 1 second. Pretends it's quite tough. Looks up to see if Bob has got it. Looks a bit shifty. Double checks he has got it right. Relax.

Re: Spoilers for Wednesday 16th September 2009
In the UNBRAISED round I had a 7 I can't remember, but guessed Bob would have more. Therefore I thought if I gambled a 9 it would force his hand as well, and sure enough it did. Bob it turned out did indeed have more than an 8, with DENARIUS. Sitting at home I just got BRANDIES as well!
STIMPYING FTW as well. I thought the conundrum was quite difficult, taking into account the MIS- prefix which I ironically miss a lot and the Y in the middle which throws you a bit. Then again, I'm sure many of you don't agree!

Re: Spoilers for Wednesday 16th September 2009
Congrats to both players - a well fought game between two of the most likeable people we've had on the show this series.
Jeffrey, in my head I've always heard your surname with a hard G, but Jeff pronounced it with a soft G (which instantly opens up all sorts of excellent limerick opportunities). Which is right?

Not able to watch this live and not sure I want to! I still can't believe I went for UNBRAISED when I had two eights - DENARIUS and UNBIASED. Jeff told me at the time he only had a seven. And as for round one...
Very, very gutted but well played Jeff, and I hope you put a good run together.

Oh, and before the show (and indeed for the first 3 now) I'd never heard of TECHIES, HIMATION, ARANEIDS or CONFUTE. UNLEADED was a good spot, and obviously I should have got URBANISED considering I'm certain I've made the same mistake on Apterous before.
And if you watch closely after Bob's UPPIEST round, whilst Jeff's talking you'll see me realise I'm 22 ahead at the last numbers and give a very small fist clench of victory.

I haven't had a chance to watch the show yet, but I couldn't resist looking in here to see what happened. Sorry to hear your streak has ended Bob - I've really enjoyed the way you came out of nowhere and won several games, well insofar as you weren't that well-known on Apterous or here before hand. Sounds like Jeffrey is worth watching as well though, so congratulations to you and good luck with your run.

Anyone who has played me online will know I blow more hot and cold than Ms. Perry herself. Prepare for more 'I can't believe he didn't get that' moments tomorrow. Hopefully though, my play when I'm doing well should be enough to negate the parts where I'm not, but anywho it's all conducive to what I like to call an exciting style but which others would probably call inept or just plain crap.
Re: Spoilers for Wednesday 16th September 2009
I liked todays episode. I was sad to see Bob lose, but glad it was to someone who seemed as nice as Jeffrey. Id rather Jeffrey Had one, because we still have a chance of seeing bob in the finals, whereas we wouldn't have seen Jeffrey again if Dob won. Bobs delight at unscrambling the conundrum made me smile.

Re: Spoilers for Wednesday 16th September 2009
Yeah, I agree with just about everyone. This was one of, if not the best, game of the series and probably the best since Kirk & Neil's semi-final.
It was such a joy to be in the audience that day. I was hoping that Bob would become an octochamp, because really we have only seen his full potential in phases during his 6 show stay, but hopefully Jeffrey can take his torch and become an octo himself.
Defo hope that Bob gets into the semis, but it's going to be a long, long wait.

Well, as we all know, Kirk & Neil's semi was tight, nail biting stuff, you couldn't tell who was going to win until right at the very end when it was eventually settled by that conundrum.Michael Wallace wrote:This surprises me a bit, care to elaborate on why?James Robinson wrote:This was one of, if not the best, game of the series and probably the best since Kirk & Neil's semi-final.
This game, although there wasn't a finals place or a championship to decide was pretty gripping. (I'm mainly saying this from when I was sat in the audience watching it.) Really if Bob hadn't missed the extra S at the start, this game could have been even tighter and possibly more pressure might have been put on Jeffrey, but I thought the standard of both players was exceptional, despite the UNBRAISED/URBANISED bit and Bob's UPPIEST declaration, which of course ended his challenge. I was trying to keep up with them quite a lot of the time in the audience
If either player was at the peak of their game, they'd have won it. Luckily for Jeffrey, he was.
Definitely unfortunate for Bob, since he would have been a deserved octochamp.
And I can't think of any other really, really good games in this series, can you

Re: Spoilers for Wednesday 16th September 2009
I don't think I'd call the standard 'exceptional', but I suppose that's a matter of taste (it was good, sure, but not remarkable imo). Plus it might have been close, but the difference never dropping below 10 (after it got that large) makes it hard for me to find it particularly nail-biting.
In terms of other games this series, I found Chris Davies' game against Ross Mackenzie's much more interesting, and there are probably plenty of others I could find if I could be bothered to trawl the wiki. YMMV, of course.

I don't see where you could gain spoilers for Thursday. The moments part refers to the fact, both today and online, I often miss easy words (URBANISED/PUNIEST/anything but bloody DELUXE today or EARLDOMS/COASTER on Apterous) and that there is a high chance due to my not-being-overly-great I probably will tomorrow. Tbh, I can't even remember what happens tomorrow. The good negating the bad play is also meant to be in general, not specifically relating to tomorrow's game.Ben Hunter wrote:This thread is about spoilers for Wednesday, not Thursday .Jeffrey Burgin wrote:Anyone who has played me online will know I blow more hot and cold than Ms. Perry herself. Well played Jeff
I, too, would have been tempted to go for DELUXE having been a big fan of Be Bop Deluxe in the 1970's.
Best of luck for tomorrow (or is it today now?)

I've got nothing against that game, although that game was between Chris, who as we all know is exceptional and Ross, who is a Scrabble champion, so really if they played rubbish, that might have been a big disappointment.Michael Wallace wrote:In terms of other games this series, I found Chris Davies' game against Ross Mackenzie's much more interesting, and there are probably plenty of others I could find if I could be bothered to trawl the wiki. Whereas Bob and Jeffrey are more in the realms of normality, compared to Chris and Ross.
EDIT: Just thought, maybe another contender for game of the series so far, Micheal Harris v Andrew Hulme. Not a bad shout, it has to be said.

Re: Spoilers for Wednesday 16th September 2009
Really enjoyed Bob's run. After suffering a seemingly chunky run of nervous/attitudinal contestants, it was refreshing to get to watch someone so unreservedly smiley on the show, and (to me at least) it seems to make a massive difference to the show's vibe. Never seen someone smile so much at the end of a losing game (not that I recall at least). He'll be thoroughly missed (by me at least). That said, Jeffrey's doing a good job on the smiling front as well which is much appreciated (by me at least).
