Apterous Down?

Post by Niall Seymour »

I can get onto the site fine, but can't get into the game room.

Is this the same for everyone?

Crikey!!

Looking at Chat Archive, it's been down since about 8.00pm last night and is still down.

Where's Charlie? Is he on holiday? If so, when does he come back?

Could we be without Apterous for the next 2 weeks??

Close, it's actually until start of September - I'm not sure he could get away with being on holiday for over a month...

Has anyone emailed Charlie yet? I'm sure he said to email him if there are any problems but don't want to do it if several others have.

He did indeed say that but I'm not doing it as I'm relatively new here.

YOU should do it!

I can't believe it. I decided to email Charlie about this and he replied that nobody had told him about it except me. Unbelievable - I bet all of you assumed he'd be inundated so left it. This same principle occurs in competitions when people don't enter because they assume loads of other people enter and so they think your chance of winning is virtually 0 when in fact it is much higher as the number of entries is quite low.

Anyway he replied saying it was fine for him when he checked this morning so I replied saying the site is OK, just clicking play is a problem.

Sigh.....

Just back from my holiday, daughters at their daddies....and my plans for a serious catch up session are kaput! :-(

Ah well, there is always the five episodes I have not seen this week to console myself with! Hello to all, by the way! Hope everyone is fine and dandy. xxx

I've had a prod around today and really I have no clue why it isn't working. It's unlikely to be working again before I get back to my own PC on 2 September, although it might work intermittently.

Oooh I just managed to get into the room and it said "Lisa Thompson has left the room" "Charlie Reams has left the room" but there were no other players in the room, not even bots. I left the room without trying to play classic games or type in the chat room stupidly.

It works while I stay logged in to the server running the program as myself, but as soon as I leave it to run by itself, it just dies silently. Most mysterious.

Hmm. I just got on and played half the duel and then clearly you left the server and it died. The error in the error tracker was:
ClientGame1 [CXPLAY]: net.BlockingLayerInterruptedException: java.io.IOException: Stream ended (poison object extracted)

I suppose you knew why already though.

Then it said:

KeepaliveThread [Disconnected from server]: java.net.SocketException: Software caused connection abort: socket write error

The bots disappeared and I couldn't type in chat, nor play against classic games.

Hope this helps crack the case a little although it probably won't.

Maybe we didn't want to disturb Charlie on his holiday, but I'm rather pleased that Kirk did!

I've just played a 'bot game and the Daily Duel, but not many people about to play ATM.
Maybe I'll try again this evening after my swim with my children.

Thanks for fixing it, Charlie, hope you're still having a great time! :D 8-)

Surprisingly I actually figured out what this text (which was just a picture of the bat symbol) meant and came online to fix it. Good work. It appears to be a fairly exotic deadlock bug. Server will return shortly.

It seems me being on holiday is a surefire guarantee that something obscure will go wrong. This time the server code got deadlocked *and* the "no one is playing, this is odd, I better reset" failsafe also broke simultaneously. Brilliant.

Just a mini-grump from me on today's duel where I got thrown out after one of the rounds having completed it. When I got back in I've scored a big fat zero with no word being recorded. I only put one in, so it wasn't like there would have been a choice to make.
I have nothing to declare except my Guinness.

Looks as if it's down again.

In line with Charlie's official guide, I'll text him in 2 mins, once the half-hour's up.

Seems to be crawling at the moment, and it's also telling me my opponent is off line when she clearly isn't...

Just check todays games and you'll see it's been down for quite a while. It should be back up in about 10 minutes.
