Spoilers For Monday August 24th 2009

Post by James Robinson »

At last, a return to normality! Our beloved Countdown returns to our screens after a month off. ;) :) :D

So, one big question needs to be answered over these next few days, or maybe it will be answered today :?:

Will Paul become an octochamp and become the first octochamp to directly follow an octochamp in God knows how long. (Does anyone know the last time there were 2 consecutive octochamps?)

I suppose we'll have to wait and see.

Since Junaid and Kai.
In his 8th game, he will have to face (should he get there) a certain Mr Davies.

That would be very harsh if he did make it that far.

Incorrect. Mr Davies starts on Friday, so Paul would have won 8 by then, since he already has 4 wins.

Sorry, you're right, I thought he had three.

It seems the time of remembering pointless statistics about me has gone for you all.

The film on before Countdown today was absolute shit, although admittedly I only saw the last twenty minutes or so.

HYALITE as an equaller in round 6 but is DEADPANS ok in round 8? Susie said it can be a verb but checking the dictionary it is only listed as "verb (dead-pan)" and all the derivatives are given as hyphenated. It doesn't say "deadpan, also dead-pan" so I'd say it shouldn't be valid.

When Richard declared STONE in round 1 and Alistair said, "you'll kick yourself," I thought he was going to point out that Richard had missed STONER...

Funny all the talk about the new goody bag bag at the beginning, as only earlier today I read Tony Warren's Experience, and he was remembering how the Corbys struggled to carry all Jon's goodies home in the flimsy carrier bag provided.

Great anecdote from me there, eh?
Well at least better than the "and a better consonant" which caused a huge wave of laughter from the audience today.

This isn't a dig because Paul comes across as a really nice, personable guy; but if he becomes an octochamp surely he will be one of the worst in recent times?

Nice little Lidl reference from Rachel at the end there too.

That's cool Oliver, what was he like in person?

When are you on the show also?

Did the challenger offer MINGLED incorrectly in one round or was that just me?

As for the reigning champion, is he some sort of savant? If so, he's not very good. If not, then he's not very cool?
If I suddenly have a squirming baby on my lap it probably means that I should start paying it some attention and stop wasting my time messing around on a Countdown forum

Didn't get to talk to him at all.
Not quite sure when I'll be on but I have a vague idea.

Fucking hell, he was as well. I didn't recognise him on the show but now you've mentioned it I remember him now. I don't remember him being particularly brilliant at the audition but fair play to the fella, he's done alright.

He's my joint second favourite player of this series with Nilesh and Babs Speak.

Hulme is my favourite purely because he's a dead ringer for the barman at my local.

I thought I had ESTROGEN as a beater in round 1, until I checked up it was an American spelling. Damn!

Still here's an alternative to the first numbers:

100 + 10 = 110

110 x 6 = 660

9 x 3 = 27

660 + 27 = 687
