A-lol @ "can't manage Wednesday" and "two minutes of ninja-ry time". Also loving the idea of shouting "END OF ANECDOTE". Oh, Vine, excellent Vine.

Ah yes, that would make much more sense from the selection. I was busy typing out long words...

For pedantry's sake, he probably said GASIEST :)

Now why didn't I do it like that?

Thanks for the kind sentiments, everyone. I think I'd have found myself very annoying - too slow selecting the letters, etc. I never thought I would ever apply for the show because I was sure my nerves wouldn't take it, but eventually went to an audition "to find out" and got a recording date three weeks later.

The second numbers game was obviously key. I immediately recognised 247 as the product of 2 large primes, but for some reason thought it was 13 x 11, which I couldn't do, so went all out to find a way of making 250 - 3. The hesitations in demonstrating the solution came from having written a second 25 instead of a 50, but I did have it.

The rollercoaster of emotions at the end - unexpectedly finding I only needed to halve the last numbers, hoping for an easy 1 from the top but not getting it, thinking I'd thrown it away before finding it didn't matter - was altogether too much.

Quite possibly the most nervous contestant ever, but not unique in winning after losing the first 3 rounds.

I got home just as it was due to start on 4+1; thought, oh blow it, I need something to eat first, I'll watch it on 4OD a bit later. And of course it's one of those days when the episode hasn't so far appeared on 4OD. How annoying.

Well played Clive - a really good comeback. You clearly had the edge on the numbers.

I await with anticipation your performance against Innis.

It's on there. It says latest episode 23rd June but when you click further it gives you the option to watch the 24th too. When 4oD is shit, channel 4 catch up is usually much better.

Oh, I had TOADLETS for a DC beater in one round. Lovely word. Nice debut Clive - well battled.

Thanks Kirk - managed to find episode to watch on Channel 4 catch up.
First numbers alternative.
5-2= 3 * 10 = 30 +2 * 25 - 8 = 792

Yeah, Tim Vine was absolutely brilliant yet again. That football anecdote was as brilliant as that one about Leonardo DiCaprio when I was on the show.

Alternative for 1st numbers game:

(10 + 5) x 2 = 30

30 + 2 = 32

32 x 25 = 800

800 - 8 = 792

I was in the audience and got that 2nd numbers exactly the same way as Clive and couldn't believe it. I was so thinking to myself, "Surely, there must be a simpler way than this :?: :!: "

Sorry, what do you mean "click further"? Click on what? I've scrolled to the bottom of the page and there's no mention of the June 24th episode.

Channel 4 Catch-Up doesn't exist any more - it's all 4oD.

Sorry if I'm being dense.

I`m not sure how annoying you find him but I do find him wearing.
The very thing which appeals to many - the short, sharp, quick-fire gags and puns - is alright in short doses, but quickly grinds me down.

Because Clive was such an entertaining contestant, the enjoyment of the game was increased greatly for me. Look forward to seeing more of your Borisian bumbling exterior hiding a sharp mind later today! Also, another Countdown first I believe - I cannot remember anyone asking the letters girl to choose a letter herself before :D

It was on the Virgin version of 4OD by the time I got home at 7.

I saw another comedian on TV the other day who was also very good with those - Canadian Stewart Francis (no relation to that grape crusher bloke).

The show has finally appeared on the site formerly known as Channel 4 Catch-Up so I've caught up.

Clive was taking a bit of a risk allowing Jeff to tell the nation that he likes videoing amateur theatre productions. Most scripts released for amateur production now include a prominent reminder that videoing of copyright material for whatever purpose is illegal; I've heard of amateur theatre companies being fined up to £10,000 for making videos of stage productions for their own non-commercial use.

I love Stewart Francis as well- I think he's possibly better than Tim Vine by virtue of his near-perfect timing, but that is not to say that Tim Vine is not brilliant as well.

He never comes across very well with a totally dead audience, but somebody seems to have woken them up a bit for the last few 'days'. Or is that only the forumites we hear laughing?
