Who would you like to see in DC?

All discussion relevant to Countdown that is not too spoilerific. New members: come here first to introduce yourself. We don't bite, or at least rarely.

OK. I give up. That's it.

Congratulations. Jason Larsen is a creation of real comic genius can the puppeteer now step forward.

I was thinking of him more as a metaphorical marionette but let's go with your poignant imagery.

The only reason why I know Brian Dowling is because he gave the answer "Les Bean" on Family Fortunes with Vernon Kay! I'm serious!

I've been thinking about this on and off over the years. My number one choice...

Has Graeme Garden ever been approached? He's extremely sharp and quick-witted, very funny, as well as very intelligent, being both a Cambridge graduate and a qualified (though non-practising) doctor. His success on I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue also shows a very good ability with wordplay. (Incidentally, he also seems to be the only regular Clue performer not to have been on the show.)

Other people I've always wanted to appear over the years, who I think would be very good either because they are particularly witty, charismatic or full of anecdotes (excluding people who have already appeared):

Andy Hamilton
Tom Baker
Sandi Toksvig
Rob Brydon
David Tennant

I always love it when new people appear, and ideally would love to see more new guests appearing and fewer return appearances, at least within the same series.

These are just the people I thought might be persuaded to do it. Ideally it would be nice to have all the surviving Doctor Who actors (only 6 to go!), but I can't imagine Chris Eccleston would do it. Actually, on that subject, does anyone remember Frazer Hines being on the show? It was before my time as a fan, but I always imagined he would have been quite good.

I'm sure I'll think of more later. Does anyone know how many of the people on the above list may have been considered in the past and/or refused to do it? I'd hate to be living in false hope.

Get Tennant on and invite me back for a one off "colourful-hair" off or something.

Please?

Graeme Garden would be an excellent choice in my opinion.
He clearly is a talented "wordsmith" (whatever that is) and does clever (and funny) things with words.

Also, contractual obligations aside, I'd love to see Ian Hislop in DC - I think he'd be great

I know it's almost been a month since the last reply in here, but I was curious to know if any of the Dragons from Dragons' Den would be willing to appear in DC?

Also what about comedians Lee Mack and Jason Manford?

I`m afraid Griff Rhys Jones would lose me as a viewer.
I can`t stand that too-too-precise voice of his.
I wouldn`t mind Graeme Garden or John Fortune, though.

I wouldn't mind seeing Griff Rhys Jones or Michael Palin on Countdown.

Joseph's suggestion of Joe Pasquale reminded me of Roy 'RIGGHT' Walker, for some reason, and I think he'd be pretty decent in DC. Chalk up another one for Stephen Fry to return too :D and the slightly less likely selections from me are for Rowan Atkinson, Martin Clunes and Caroline Quentin :)

Edit:
I miss Richard Stilgoe - he was always good value for money IMO
I second that. I've hardly seen him on the show since Richard passed away.

Looks like I struck a raw nerve there!

I must admit that the sketch where they took off the Dragons Den last week made me and my son cry with laughter, following on from Paul Whitehouse having a go at each of the football team in their own language.

I know it's never going to happen, 'cos it would cost too much to fly him over from the US, and he's 81 next week, and he probably wouldn't be interested anyway... but it just occurred to me that Tom Lehrer would make the best DC guest ever.
