Countdown on DVD?

Post by Derek Hazell »

I'm not actually allowed to post on this forum, as I joined before the real names only rule came in. Thought I might get away with a poll though, but it insisted I write something in this box.

Edited to close poll.

I think Soo might be able to change your username to match your real name, if you so desire. (I originally registered as Crispy, my online pseudonym.)

It would be very nice to watch the old episodes, so obviously the answer would be yes. I don't ever see it happening though :(.

Whilst it would be cool, I think 'specialist interest' would be being generous...

I bought House, Futurama, Red Dwarf and the like on DVD because I could (and do) watch them over and over. With all due respect to the production team, watching each Countdown once is enough for me.

So no, I wouldn't buy it.

No, I don't think it would ever come to fruition either, although I voted yes.

It was nice to see the whole first ever episode back in 2007 though.
If you cut a gandiseeg in half, do you get two gandiseegs or two halves of a gandiseeg?

I think that's a bit pedantic - how about just putting your real name at the bottom of your posts?

Has Charlie actually specifically said to you that you're not allowed to post? I'd just carry on. He'll approach you himself if he wants to.

Considering starting this thread was his first post, I'd imagine Vande is saying that he specifically decided that he didn't want to use his full name when he joined the forum.

Thank you Chris Philpot. Your assumption was correct, and Charlie/Soo has now changed me to my real name.

To the rest of you, thanks for your posts but unfortunately I had already PM'd Charlie earlier today, so the deed is done now :)

I didn't mean that I have been told personally that I couldn't post; just that I have been reading this forum long enough to know that they don't want anybody to post under these kind of net only names.

I will be closing this poll in a week's time, so please vote if you haven't yet as the results are very close!

Okay, this poll is now closed. Results were very close, with 17 people who would, and 14 who wouldn't buy Countdown if the first series was released on DVD.

Over 50% isn't bad a forum full of Countdown fans, so if it was released it would have a good chance of selling a few copies. People buy things like Dragons' Den on DVD, which is very much of its time and has no nostalgia value at all, so I can't see why not. It would have great nostalgia value, as the show has changed and evolved over the years, but remained fundamentally the same.

We all enjoyed getting the chance to see the first episode when it was reshown, and it stimulated a lot of discussion, so the others from the first series probably would too. It would also be interesting to see the contestants from back then.

Not sure how many series it would be practical to release in this way though, and it may be better to start going down the "Best of" route after that.

Anyway, thanks for your votes and discussion. It may even stimulate Damian or one of the other staff to start negotiations

Typically, I first see a thread after the poll has closed. So I'll just add my comment here. Yes, I would buy it (if the price was right), firstly to watch the programmes, and secondly to fill in some of the gaps in the recaps on both the cdb and the wiki.
