I only made brief one word details of the contestants intro details and I cant remember them well but I'm sure Lisa can correct me if I get anything wrong
C1: Champion Zoe Bowman (2 wins, 162 points) has already had the rare privilege of playing either side of the CofC under the reign of 2 different hosts. She's from Buckinghamshire, married to Brian. She has a penchant for travelling and has visited Ethiopia amongst other places including the Okavango Delta. She enjoys Mahjong and has 5 grandchildren.

Teatime teaser: ERRSOFTY -> FORESTRY

Score: 57–98 (max 119)
So Zoe's short-lived run comes to an end but if its any consolation she's currently (albeit briefly) number one seed! A solid debut score from Lisa here, but easily beatable as she scored only 4 maxes out of 15. Even Howard armchair beat her by 48 points (and Howard's crap! If you don't believe me ask Emma) but perhaps it was just beginner's nerves and I'm sure she'll demonstrate even greater skillz tomorrow. I'd wager that she'll bag at least 3 wins anyway

Re: Tuesday 3rd February 2009 Series 60 Game 2
Here we go! Tuesday!
Lisa Thomson is Jeff Stelling's very first Fireball Hottie!
Round 1: What does VERRUCA mean, Zoe?
Round 4: Here we go with food again! What is it with food and Series 60?
John's Words of Wisdom: It doesn't surprise me that an elephant is a dangerous animal, but why a polar bear? I would think it would be very meek!
Round 8: LEASING is a verb, Zoe. Tough luck.
Teatime Teaser #2: Could cashiers really be fortune tellers? How can you possibly amass a fortune by buying food?
Round 11: I thought BRAINER would be a word, as in, "an exercise of your brain!" Tough luck again, Zoe!
Round 13: Why the heck would it be a problem for Zoe if SCORE is an acceptable word? It was in the dictionary!
The Fireball Hottie did it! She will be back tomorrow with another new challenger, and hopefully Jeff will show his clever self again.

Jason, LEASING is not a verb which is why you can not put an S on the end.Jason Larsen wrote: Round 8: LEASING is a verb, Zoe. Tough luck.
Re: Tuesday 3rd February 2009 Series 60 Game 2
Round 1: a verruca is a sort of wart, usually on your foot.
Round 4: Jeff's made quite a point of being fond of his food, hence the food jokes.
TT2: "teller" is an English (but presumably not American) word for the person sitting behind the counter at the bank. Hence fortune teller = teller (or cashier) who handles fortunes, ie. money.
Round 13: Zoe's problem was that she failed to spot that her 5 (which was worth 0 points, it was beaten by a 6) could have been turned into a 6 quite easily by adding the R.

Kirk, I think Jason meant that LEASING is the present participle of the verb "lease", as opposed to it being a noun. It's still a verb.Kirk Bevins wrote:Jason, LEASING is not a verb which is why you can not put an S on the end.Jason Larsen wrote: Round 8: LEASING is a verb, Zoe. Tough luck.

I think Kirk just meant to write "noun". Either that or he has the same grasp of English grammar as, err, most teachers.

No, Jono had it right. I meant verb as LEASING is not a verb, but LEASE is. I was correct with what I said.Charlie Reams wrote:I think Kirk just meant to write "noun". Either that or he has the same grasp of English grammar as, err, most teachers.

Kirk, I think you and Jon are both right!
David:
I didn't even know what a verruca was!
Jeff must be a very special guy!
I knew teller was used in the English language as another name for a cashier but you're right, we don't often use that term in America.
So, Zoe had the right to "kick herself" when she couldn't spot SCORER! It serves her right!

Jason, I'm quite upset that you should pick on a woman such as Zoe in this manner. I'm sure she's a lovely person. It serves nobody right if they miss a word on Countdown, she might have been a bit nervous.

When you play Countdown online on ITV.com or wedigtv.com, sometimes Susie says, "Well, you'll kick yourself because I found a few other words, for example, I found a nine-letter word!" when you play the letters game.
