Countdown episode 1

Post by Brian Whitworth »

It looks so dated!! I can't beleive that contestant is only 28, and Cathy Hytner does not look comfortable at all doing the letters -- and look at the font!!! and they dont even label the boxes she picks from!

Richard's thing about a countdown to a new channel ending and a brand new Countdown beginning reminds me of Neil Armstrong's first words on the moon.

The font that was used, was called Egyptienne (well this is one of names the font could be called - there's probably other names) and I quite liked it. Also the consonants were in the left box and vowels were in the right box.

Yeah I noticed that - also what's the point of the woman putting the numebrs up?? she doesn't even speak, Richard says what the numbers are!

Quite brilliant! I must admit I got 494 and then was positively kicking myself when Carol showed how to do it. The colour scheme of the letters hurt my eyes though!

Excellent, another contender for "Countdowner who looks most uncannily like a cartoon character":

Image
Geoff Andrews : Ned Flanders

This clip also puts paid to the oft-repeated myth about Carol being the first woman to appear on Channel 4. Even discounting the women in the audience, that honour actually goes to Mary, Ted Moult's "assistant".

Either ned flanders, or a young Jim McDonald off coronation street!

Comparing these 2 events is ludicrous. The moon landing is nowhere near as significant ;)

Just ask Richard Brittain.

Thats the English way of spelling my name.
Coronation Street is a British soap opera that has been running since 1960 without a break.

No break - even though it's on ITV. At least you can just tune in at any time to see what's going on in "the street".

Thank you for the information, Brian!

Jeff, I do know what Coronation Street is. We get CBC, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation since we are so close to the Canadian border and it comes on every weeknight at 7:00.

It is followed by US Jeopardy.

So, the fact that he gives his location as Seattle, Washington wasn't a clue then?

Is that pic you Jason? I'd just assumed it was Harry Potter since I first saw it, I don't know why. It probably looks nothing like him (I have less than zero interest in that little cock of a wizard).

Thank you!

Matt, believe it or not, somebody told me I look like Daniel Radcliffe and it was a British boy. He is even younger than Daniel!
