Wanted - willing recappers

Any recaps from older series should be posted here. This forum is unlikely to contain spoilers, but recaps may contain "forward references" if they are written much later, so approach with caution.

Wanted - willing recappers

Post by Charlie Reams »

I have a large number of scans of old episode details from Mike Brown and it doesn't look like I'll have time to do the recaps myself any time soon. If anyone else would be interested in writing them up then please reply in this thread. The recaps are from Series 49 so ideally you will have a NODE (New Oxford Dictionary of English) to check words yourself, but it is possible to split the task in two, with one person writing the recap and one person checking. All offers gratefully received.

I don't mind doing a few but unfortunately I am NODE-less so less than ideal.

I have my NODE from series 52 (2nd edition not revised), which I believe is the one you would need for the recaps? So I could check words for the recapper.

That's the ODE2 - the NODE is the edition before that.

David, I might be able to put you in touch with a NODE owner. I bet check with him before I volunteer his services publicly.

I might start checking the Countdownwiki because most of the Series 50 ones are fudged anyway. So I'd rather contribute in that way.

If you cut a gandiseeg in half, do you get two gandiseegs or two halves of a gandiseeg?

Yep, I'd be equally happy with that, plus you're one of the few people with good knowledge of wikisyntax.

I'd be willing to do some, but I'm also NODE-less.

Is that the same excuse you used for ignoring Larsen's emails?

(I only posted this so that all the forums now say "last post by Corby" :D)

David and Conor - any progress on your recaps? If you've gone off the idea then please let me know and I'll reassign them.

Certainly, I can put you in touch with my secret NODE-owning source if you like. Previous experience suggests that preparing the recaps with CountMax and then patching them up after a proper NODE check is a pretty efficient way of working, as very little has changed between the two dictionaries. I'll send you some recaps when I get proper Internet back (soonish), or either of the above can forward them to you directly if they don't plan to do them soon.

Yeah I own a NODE, but I have limited patience for looking through it, but if anyone wants to send me lists in alphabetical order I don't mind.

Martin, we have records here of virtually every game ever played.
If there are any that you are particularly interested in, then let me know and perhaps i'll dig them out and you can do whatever it is you do with them.

This is really surprising because I assumed someone from this forum had already asked you for them. I think that the goal is to actually log all the records on a database eventually but thus far I haven't been able to do the five Charlie gave me in the last three months.

Not to my knowledge, David.

I don't think we'll be able to offer up the details for all 5000 shows though. It might get a little tedious.

I'm quite sure the Charlie will be onto this as soon as he recovers from the drunken stupor following his finals.

edit: I should've said that rather than the, before Charlie.

He's gradually getting all the details from Mike Brown, who also has such a record of everything ever. It is tedious, yes.

Yep, my secretary is right. Mike has to scan 2 pages for every episode and then I type them out, so it would take decades for us to actually complete everything at that rate.

I emailed Michael Wylie some years ago to ask if you kept any records of old games, but I doubt some random email from a Hotmail account even made it past his spam filter. So yeah, I had no idea. Damian, what format are they in? Is it something I could get access to when I eventually get round to coming on the show? That would be pretty awesome. The very early days are particular blank spots, as even Mike doesn't have anything from the first two series.
