Re: Spoilers for Tuesday, 26th February
8+1 x 10 = 90 + 50 = 140
140 + (8x9) = 212
140 + (8x9) = 212
If I suddenly have a squirming baby on my lap it probably means that I should start paying it some attention and stop wasting my time messing around on a Countdown forum

Re: Spoilers for Tuesday, 26th February
I was delighted that I spotted the word AXINITE(7) in round 4 and again beat DC with INQUEST(7) in round 11
Re: Spoilers for Tuesday, 26th February
MORAINIC was a beater in one round.

EXILIAN (7) in Round 4, presuming it's in the ODE.

Pretty sure INQUEST was not a DC beater though, they had PIQUETS and PUNIEST.

If you cut a gandiseeg in half, do you get two gandiseegs or two halves of a gandiseeg?
Re: Spoilers for Tuesday, 26th February
I think they just offered PIQUET, I'm not certain it's allowable as a plural. I remember in one of my heats DC offered PIQUETS, with the meaning of PIQUET as some kind of soldier. When I later checked my ODE2r, no such definition was included and PIQUET was only in as a mass noun, meaning a card game. I hadn't realised at the time though that they hadn't yet switched over to the ODE2r and were still using the previous version at that point, so I'm guessing it must have been a change between versions?Martin Gardner wrote:Pretty sure INQUEST was not a DC beater though, they had PIQUETS and PUNIEST.

(I don't have my dictionary to hand while I'm writing this btw, so I could be wrong about all or some of this)
Anyhow, considering both contestants had PUNIEST I don't think INQUEST can be considered a beater!
Edit: Just re-read Jason's original message, and he did just say DC beater, and I don't think they offered a 7, so fair dos.
