CO:LON 2026 - Countdown in London - 21st February 2026

It's the return of CO:LON - Countdown in London 2026 – a FOCAL Countdown event.

WHEN
Saturday 21st February 2026
Doors open at 10:45 am.
Gameplay starts at 11:30.

WHERE & GETTING THERE
“The Venue”, Level 2, The O2 Centre, 255 Finchley Road, London NW3 6LU
We’ll be in “The Venue”, on the top floor … the event will be clearly signposted.

The O2 Centre is a small shopping centre located just a 2-minute walk from Finchley Road Underground Station on the Jubilee and Metropolitan Lines, or a 4-minute walk from Finchley Road & Frognal Overground Station.

It’s reachable in around 20 to 25 minutes via public transport from all the major train stations in London, as well as being well served by bus routes.

If you feel compelled to drive, there is paid parking in the O2 Centre car park.

If you’re a Parkrunner, the nearest one to the venue is Hampstead Heath, just over a mile away on foot, or a short trip by bus or Overground.
If you’re overnighting the night before, you might also find one closer to your accommodation … London has plenty of them!

WHAT
You’ll be playing 9-round games of Countdown in the “Bristol” format, where everyone plays in pairs from the same selections projected on a big screen, and with each pair choosing their preferred selection during the numbers rounds … all will be explained on the day for anyone unfamiliar, and we’ll start with a practice round.
We'll play 7 games in total, followed by the top two players on the day facing off in a grand final.

As with most Countdown events, the first round will be drawn randomly, but don't worry if you have a bumpy start - for the remaining games you will be playing opponents on the same number of wins as you, so everyone should get some good, well matched games. The primary aim is to have fun!

And of course there will be prizes!

FOOD & DRINK
Within the O2 Centre itself is an ALDI Local, a big Sainsburys, a Nandos, and a coffee shop. There are also various places outside the Centre within easy reach.
You are also welcome to bring your own food, but please note that alcohol is not allowed to be consumed at the venue.

We will have access to a small kitchen in the venue itself, with tea/coffee making facilities, etc.

AFTER THE EVENT
We’ll go back to Pizza Express in Baker Street again, because they’re really good to deal with, and can accommodate big bookings and pretty much all dietary requirements.
Table will be booked for 7:00 pm as usual.

SIGN ME UP!
The entry fee is £14.

Please sign up by completing the entry form at this link: https://forms.gle/vCzmicuRKLL3bkZD9

Can't wait to see you there!

Couldn't get the April slot from the venue this time, but thanks for being the number 1 sign-up anyway! :)

Hey guys, I don't know the best place to ask this, so I'll ask here on my family's behalf. Where's the best place to stay for the event?

  • Soho
  • Westminster
  • Waterloo

My family's open to any other suggestions if those don't suffice.

I could have sworn I'd replied to this, sorry!

Honestly, pretty much any of those, the event venue is no more than 25 minutes on public transport from any of the main London train stations, i.e. from pretty much anywhere in Central London.
However, Central London is expensive, although obviously handy for touristy stuff.

I suggest you take a look at an Underground map ... The venue is very near Finchley Road station on the Jubilee and Metropolitan lines, or Finchley Road and Frognal Overground (less frequent service than the Underground but still could).

If you want to go for cheaper accommodation but still with good transport links both to the event and intro Central London, then Wembley Park could be a good shout (but not any of the other Wembleys, their transport links are less good.)

Wembley Park has a Premier Inn (please pronounce that the English way, not the American ;) ) and a Novotel, possibly more slightly further from the station.

Hope that helps, DM me on FB if you need more info, I'll see that more quickly than on here.

Definitely too far out for me but looks nice! Bring Jono to the event - can't be his wedding anniversary again!

Okay I finally got back home to Florida, now time for me to type a somewhat lengthy ass post about my time.

Thank you to everyone that was there. The moment I stepped into that O2 venue and saw some folk, it felt like nothing was out of touch. It was definitely new territory I tracked to some degree, but everything still felt great. I wanna give a big thank you to Phil for putting it all together, Beachy of course for not only letting me help out a little but for giving me such a warm welcome gift too! Of course I can't forget the people I played against:
  • Ed Byrne (pulled off a double max game on my first go, and didn't even get my own conundrum lmao)
  • Josephine Sinclair (it really does feel like a small circle when someone whose episode you watched on YouTube when getting into Countdown is someone that you'd eventually play against in person)
  • Tom Stevenson (glad to get another game of ours under our belt lol, served as good revenge for the ZD Christmas tourney)
  • Joseph Bartram (close game but honestly a fun one, happy to play against ya in person)
  • Jessica Pratesi (loved learning more about Scrabble from you, and really enjoyed seeing you play against Maus in the break)
  • Mike Lee (glad we didn't have another shit letters selection, those 5 O's in a row still haunt me)
  • Stu Harkness (Was such a surprise to see you at the event, loved our game and our chats right after)
Also wanna thank the lil group I was talking to at the Pizza Express, glad I was able to open up more about myself and my life and have just a really good insightful chat, despite me being congested and whatnot. Definitely had a list of people I wish I talked to some more but never got to (you know who you are), but hopefully I'll see 'em when I go spend another copious amount of money to fly to the UK again. Definitely took away some key lessons too:
  1. Don't run in four layers in cold weather to Leicester Square
  2. It's always STACKYARD
  3. Borough Market closes Monday
Thanks y'all ❤️
