Welcome to the 92nd Grand Final. Today’s two finalists, the top two seeds Jase Cullen and Brett Davids, have between them played 29 matches, won 4 teapots and solved 18 conundrums correctly. And they’ve ended up in the ultimate show of the series featuring a 96-year-old contestant, a max game achieved by Brett, and a record 26 contestants coming back for a second go.
Only 15 points separate the two grand finalists’ series totals up to now. Neither Jase nor Brett have fallen below 116 in their last two matches.

The trophy broke!!! Brilliant telly.
An inspired shot from Brett, but he found Jase on superb form today. Jase didn't even blob on one, just a straight run to the top.
I think these 3 large numbers games — the least popular selection mind — show how easy it is to forget to factorise the target figure, or spot nearby factors. It's instinctively done for 6 small, but we forget that it can work for any numbers chosen: 1/2/3 and even 4 large. Also, we tend to divide a target ending in 0 by 10, but we don't consider 2 and 5, or in the case of the first game, 8 (and 4).
DECALITRE I think you either know or you don't. MAJESTIC was excellent.
Very well done to both players.
To top it all, I think all the conundrums chosen for these knockout matches were just right; not too easy, not too hard, difficulty barely fluctuated between the matches (I managed to get them all).
Hopefully from next year onwards, we'll have more new contestants competing.

Well done to Jase, not just for winning, but for keeping his shirt tucked in at the end!
Commiseration to Brett who showed great sportsmanship throughout.
A fitting end to a superb series!

Fantastic Finale to wrap up an excellent second half of the Year! My review will be up perhaps on Sunday as I have Christmas Carols to sing tomorrow first!

So, series runner up!
I never thought I’d go back on Countdown. I’d loved my time in 2014, got my teapot, and was genuinely happy with how I’d done. I enjoyed playing online but with no real aspirations of anything more. But about a year ago, I started to wonder… could I do it again? Could I maybe do better?
Was it a midlife crisis? Probably. But a bit safer than a motorbike!
It certainly hasn’t been easy. I failed my audition! Thankfully, the production team saw something in me and let me have a second shot. And I got on!
After that, it’s a been a bit bonkers. Scraping past Angus Faraday, who would be a Octochamp himself most times. 136 on telly! A blooming MAX GAME!
The finals - with everyone able to take a guest and the most amazing group of finalists, to a man (and woman!) made for such a supportive, positive and genuinely magical couple of days. Mark playing out of his skin in the quarters and scraping past him. 30 seconds of torture getting nowhere near the crucial conundrum in the semi and Ben buzzing in on 28 seconds. Being hugged by Christopher Biggins of all people!
And the final? Not my best game in truth, but I left everything out there, gave it my best shot and, ultimately, it wasn’t quite enough. And I’m quite OK with that. If you’d have asked me a year ago would I have been happy with being series runner up, I’d have snapped your hands off.
Jase is a worthy champion and an awesome bloke behind the scenes, and thoroughly deserved the championship. Put simply, he was better than the rest of us!
So there ends my Countdown tenure. Proud I’ve done it, sad it’s over, and no regrets.
(Of course, there’s always Champion or Champions. You never know…!)

Great account, Brett. You were great to watch and well done on your achievements. And if this makes you feel any better, I was stumped on the 3rd numbers and you scored higher than my last appearance back in 2019.Brett Davids wrote: ↑Fri Dec 19, 2025 5:17 pm So, series runner up!

You’re definitely worthy of the Champion of Champions call.
